Greatest Closing Scene...

The series was nothing special, but the end of Yotoden was just brutal. The heroine just howling over and over, drives home that she’s really lost everything . . .

Or thats’s where it should have ended. They thougt it would be fun to tack on a pretentious “history is made by people” bit that totally kills the mood of the first part.

Key the Metal Idol proably should win some kind of award for the most ambiguous ending. In the, “Is this a happy moment, or should I be disturbed?” sense.

And because you didn’t specify movies, I feel obliged to mention Fallout . . .

God, I’m such a geek . . .

“I had so many things I wanted to tell you . . .”

It took my girlfriend and I days to recover from that. We watched the entire Blackadder series over the course of a week, so it was a pretty serious investment. After watching hours of totally unrealistic comedy, Blackadder got terribly real.

I am surprised no one mentioned Karakter. Especially you, Coldfire. :wink:

As Katadreuffe leaves the police station after being questioned about the violent death of his father, he instantaneously revises the entire course of his relationship with his father. In a moment of epiphany, he sees him for a moment, finally seeing his father as the man wanted to be seen. Stunning, stunning ending.

Don’t recall if it’s the very end, bit it’s at least close …

1931’s “Public Enemy”

James Cagney’s death on the steps. Corny, but in the context of this great old prohibition-era drama, it’s perfect.

I thought the ending of Stand by Me was pretty poignant. The narrator describes how his childhood friend died breking up a fight, he looks up at his kid playing with his own buddy, and he types the final line to the story: “I never had friends again like the friends I had when I was twelve. Does anyone?”

Fail Safe --people going about their business, then the action stops as the bombs go off…

::whistles “We’ll Meet Again”::

Army of Darkness (the ending they went with). I laughed, I cried… :slight_smile:

And if we’re going to count anime endings, I’ll go with the Neon Genesis Evangelion movie as well as Kite.
