I couldn’t disagree more. Danny Carey is one of the few guys I’ve heard that both shows off and compliments the other musicians at the same time. Seeing him live was kind of irritating because it didn’t look like he was even breaking a sweat playing some of that crazy stuff. It’s got to be pretty tough to play anything at all to those wild time signatures. I think I would get lost.
In indie, I’d have to give the no. 1 spot to Zach Hill, without question.
Glenn Kotche of Wilco is amazing. He’s a perfect part of the band, and he’s actually got an amazing solo album. I saw him do a show live once and it was about 45 minutes of nothing but him and his (massive) drum set, and it was fascinating and wonderful.
