Do you think it should just be about ground commanders, or air and naval commanders as well?
Oh, I’d throw it open. While a “Greatest Admirals” thread would be interesting ( and allow me to introduce my favorite, Roger di Lauria, who I probably wouldn’t have room for in a greatest military leaders thread ), it’d be a much smaller list and probably garner both wider general consensus and fewer participants. I sincerely doubt many air force generals would make the list anyway, but at least it potentially leaves room for one or two. And it would also potentially allow for some other neglected specialists like brilliant military engineers such as Vauban or Coehoorn.
However if you are soliciting opinions, I’d request that perhaps a slightly longer description be allowed. Nothing huge - maybe just 5-10 words, instead of three. A short sentence. Three seems awful limiting ( though I realize that is partially the intention ).
Maybe five, at most, I think. It was indeed my intention to force people to be pithy.
This one was tough, especially with the votes being so close.
