They better not do that, but I guess I won’t bet against it.

The whole Nick/Monroe going to the Black Forest thing was done very stupidly, but I guess I can’t expect much from a show with no sense of normal reactions to events and no long term public consequences to anything. They just walked right into an area thick with Wesen, in search of something _everyone_ is after and they’re just blundering around with no awareness of their surroundings???

This show is mindless (and enjoyable) entertainment to me, but I’m not sure I could deal with another switcheroo. Initially, I was hesitant about the whole Adalind-Nick co-parenting thing but they actually did a decent job building their new relationship. It definitely helps that Adalind and Nick had great chemistry as enemies too.

I like Eve a lot more than I liked Juliette, so I have zero interest in seeing her turn back into her old self.

Glad to see the Key storyline kicking into high gear this season too.

I recently binge-watched seasons 1-4, and I’m glad to see the Key line moving forward. I was far more interested in that than in interminable Juliette-drama. She was okay on the few occasions when she did/knew something useful, but on the whole, I’d have been just as happy if Nick had followed his aunt’s advice. (I did have a glimmer of hope that her transformation would lead to her being a real partner for Nick, but that ship has sailed, sunk, and been buried in shark-shit, IMHO.)

On a side-note, I’d like to see some elaboration on the development of Nick’s Grimm abilities. I’m not fully caught up, but the impression I’ve gotten so far is that he has a sort of “that which does not kill me” thing going on–exposure to various things wesen can do seems to catalyze new tricks for him. His enhanced hearing manifested when he was temporarily blinded, he got tougher after being beat up by an ogre, his metabolic modification was a response to poison, his enhanced strength and reflexes developed after fighting various wesen, and so forth. Did these events trigger the development of those abilities? If so, no wonder experienced Grimms terrify people.

Maybe I’m mistaken or confused, but I kind of have always had the impression that the show is more or less based on the premise that Wesen are everywhere among us, and not necessarily in small numbers. And also that historical Grimms were successful enough that the Wesen communities are extraordinarily circumspect about that kind of thing, so that the Grimm tales are considered fairy tales or legends, or whatever.

So in reference to “an area thick with Wesen”, I figure that Bavaria isn’t any different than anywhere else in terms of the number of Wesen. What would be different might be their historical knowledge and context with respect to stuff like the keys, etc…

And… I kind of like nice-Adalind better than I did Juliette. I’d like to see her stick around; my best hope is that maybe they’ll have Eve/Juliette undergo some kind of epiphany and want to come back to Nick, and he’ll have to tell her to take a hike (I’d hope, and I know it would probably take 3-4 episodes to resolve).

One fault I have with most sci-fi and fantasy shows is that a certain race is said to all be a certain way, like all Hexenbiest are evil, but yet that black lady seemed just fine. Or Vampires on Buffy, Spike became good, so if Adalind gets her powers back there’s no need for her to become evil again. Hell, she even mellowed out a lot after the birth of her first child. I think if she gets her power back AND becomes a bad guy again, it’s only for the sake of adding drama.

Not sure here. I got the impression that Portland was extra heavy with Wesen. Much more rare elsewhere. I mean, if they were common all over the world, the murder rate would be crazy.

Well, [“Keep Portland Weird”](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keep_Portland_Weird) is a thing. (Does that mean Austin has a high wesen population, too?)

In reality, Portland appears to see about 20-30 murders in most years. In the Grimmverse, it seems to be much higher. Otherwise, we have to assume, not just that every murder is wesen-related, but that Nick is investigating all of them (and covering some up besides). Grimm or not, he’s one detective in one of three precincts, so we shouldn’t assume every weird case falls in his lap (unless this version of the Portland PD has a city-wide Special Crimes Unit or something that specializes in odd stuff). Unrealistically high crime rates are not exactly unknown in cop drama/procedural/mystery series, though.

It’s also possible that something is stirring up trouble among the Portland wesen, or drawing more violently inclined wesen to the area. Obviously, some of the violence has been the result of people coming specifically to kill Nick or Renard, or looking for supernatural mcguffins brought to Portland by Grimms. Those aside, maybe the wesen in Portland are just worse at keeping a low profile? If there hasn’t been an active Grimm in the area until the last few years, maybe the city had a reputation as a relatively safe place to act out, and attracted less-disciplined wesen.

I almost forgot about this. When the mayor was shot I thought that maybe I misremembered that the photo was of Renard. Now that I know I saw it right, it feels like a cheat.

Since every time anyone has tried to kill Nick they’ve wound up dead (usually horribly dead and often with their heads sent back to their bosses) you’d think his enemies wouldn’t try it anymore.

I never got that impression at all; I always figured we were getting a rather unique window into the Wesen community, because we were seeing the triple-whammy of having a Grimm as a protagonist, who is also a detective, and the protagonist’s best friends are also Wesen.

So we see what a Grimm would see, what a Grimm detective would see, and what Monroe and Rosalie would know about. Any one of the three would see a lot less of the picture than the 3 aspects combined.

And they’ve tracked backgrounds on lots of Wesen that came to the Portland area from elsewhere- how many nice, peaceful Wesen families who are non-predatory are there out there being plumbers like Bud, or IT people or whatever? We don’t know, and there’s not really any window into it either.

Lets also not forgtet that Portland is Renards ‘area’ of influence in the royals - makes sense there would be more Wesen in that particular area then in others.

no idea how big his region is, but when the Reaper came to get Grimm, the REaper lost an ear due to not checking in with Renard first.

I took that scenario as them just taking for granted they’d run into Wesen in their homeland (presumed, sort of, since the Royals are based there, right?). I’ve been thinking this whole time that Wesen originated in that area since that’s where everyone’s ancestors and recorded history seem to start. So I wasn’t surprised nor concerned they they weren’t surprised.

What struck me in that scene was _why didn’t Nick close his eyes or turn away_? Everyone’s after those keys, there are Black Claw people everywhere and any Wesen they run into could be one. I would think a Grimm would want to keep as low a profile as possible in that territory.

Well, it looks like the “biest” is back! Adalind’s, that is. Sort of. That was a great scene, with the guy roughing up Rosalee and then getting an immediate comeuppance by the reluctant Adalind.

Sucks for Adalind, though. She really appears to not want to be a hexenbiest anymore, and she knows it will make her ‘bad’ again.

Good scenes with Nick and Monroe in the catacombs in the Black Forest. And when they were all gathered back in Portland to open the chest and discover the amazing… stick? It reminded me of that episode of Survivor when that one idiot was fooled by a fake immunity idol and when he showed it to one of his conspirators she was not impressed, “It’s a f\*cking stick.”

Anyhow, the stick heals Monroe’s wound. Hmm… a very old wooden relic that heals. Maybe a splinter from a certain cross? I hope they don’t go there.

The “Renard” campaign poster reveal was so hokey–I love it! I don’t quite get why they expect him to go along with them. Do they not know who he is and that he is against them?

Adalind’s and Juliette’s powers are linked in some way. Nick couldn’t use his blood to take away Juliette’s powers, so the same probably holds true for Adalind.
