Should the level of customer service be based on how much the employees make? No! Is it usually? Yep. Are you treated nicer at McDonalds or an expensive restaurant? At an outlet store or at Nordstroms? I’ve worked at a grocery store before, and 75% of the employees just don’t care. I used to spend a few hours each shift wheeling around cart after cart of “go-backs” as they were called. Someone probably saw your cart right after you left it, checked back in 5 minutes and since it was still there started putting the stuff away. Don’t blame the workers; they get yelled at for letting stuff sit there too long. (And speaking as a student, there’s no way I’d leave my stuff sitting out, even if it was a quick trip to the bathroom. I go to a pretty big school, and I know people who are constantly getting their stuff stolen. Yank 3 books, and you can go sell them back to the university bookstore for about $100.)
