Groups with more than two guitarists

Three or more guitarist playing at the same time.

Leather Wolf. Metal band from the late 80’s. Two guitarist’s and the singer played as well. They had some amazing harmony runs. Awesome band.

Steve Morse Band(SMB). SMB is actually a three piece band, guitar, drums and bass. But Steve is well known for his ability to get three or four guitar parts going at once. What he does is lay down a basic guitar track then he loops it with a delay. He then adds another guitar track and loops it as well. Then he adds a midi-synth loop. Then he solo’s on top of all the other stuff. The first time I saw SMB live I was amazed. I had the pleasure of going to one of his clinics and I was blown away. This one guy on stage sounded like three poeple playing at once. While he was playing very complex music he was controlling the volume knob and dancing across his pedals. It was simply amazing.

Yes, though the original question is not there, I have to assume that it refers to MORE THAN two guitarists (bass not included) at the same time. Two is sort of the industry standard. Kiss, for example, has always been Paul on backup guitar and Ace/Vinny Vincent/Mark St. John/Bruce Kulick/Ace again on lead. IF the original post intended to mean more than two guitarists in the band’s HISTORY, then of course Kiss would fit, but they didn’t have more than two at a time (except maybe for that acoustic thingy on MTV when Ace returned…I can’t remember that part, but that doesn’t count anyway). The same could probably be said for many other groups mentioned (Metallica and the Beatles, for example?)

Never forget Blue Oyster Cult. I forget how many guitarists they normally had, but their signature was for every one in the band except for the drummer and bass player to strap on an axe and bang out Godzilla.

Garbage sometimes has 3 guitarists (swapping out bass) I think.

Isn’t Collective Soul 4 guys on guitars and a drummer? They were good till they remade themselves as a boy band.

The Beatles have been mentioned. Do y’all remember their great three-way lead guitar riff (sort of a “dueling guitars” thing) in the middle of “The End” on Abby Road? John, Paul, and George all playing lead and duking it out, great stuff!

I meant groups that have had more than two guitarists AT ANY GIVEN TIME, not throughout the band’s history. You COULD count the Beatles, but, even as talented as Paul is, he couldn’t play bass and guitar at the same time.
