Well at least your mom had good taste in TV. My parents didn’t watch All in the Family too much, either. It was vulgar and shocking to them. I discovered its greatness in syndication.
Parents had alot more rules back then about everything, including the 1 TV set in house. The only time I remember our TV being on in an “off” hour was for Charles & Diana’s wedding. And that was my mother dragging me out of bed at 5am to see it.
I was born in 1954 and so most of the TV shows I watched as a child were fairly innocuous. No series was forbidden, I don’t think it was thought about.
But one time we kids sat down to watch a movie on TV. It was “The Birds”. Mom heard the intro and wouldn’t let us watch. I must have been in junior high.
I don’t recall why, but I wasn’t allowed to watch Twin Peaks. My little brother, whose impulsiveness manifested as property damage, wasn’t allowed to watch Bevis and Butthead, which he thought was super unfair since I (six years older than him) could.
