Just hide her. It’s the least stessful way to go about it. She doesn’t care if you like her posts or not, but you will still be able to connect with her if/when you need to. ---

Have you noticed how many anti-Obama polls there are on Facebook? Drives me up the wall, it does. It’s like there’s a new right-wing circlejerk every day. My favorite recent one was “Should Obama ban Fox News? Yes, No, It’s Unconstitutional”. Care to guess what the most common two answers were? One of my best friends from high school, the girl that I came _this close_ to dating, is particularly bad about it. It saddens me. It was also fairly surprising to find out that my brother-in-law, a man I count as a friend and a family member, is a birther. Sigh. ---

Hey Hamster King Did we go to school together in Oklahoma? Because I’ve dropped an old friend based on this very stuff. Did you know that the passage of the health care bill (which he insisted it passed when one version had gotten out of committee) would allow patients to force him to perform late term abortions and it would put a Planned Parenthood clinic in every school in America. (oh yeah, he is a nurse) ---

I don’t do the Facebook thing but what I enjoy about my friends is that we can disagree vehemently about politics and other dicey subjects but the disagreements take the form of, “Should Obama be rising troop levels in Afghanistan by 40,000? or consider pulling them out?” Or, “Is the public healthcare option the best way to go or should we perhaps try a co-op option first?” As opposed to. “Is Obama the Muslim Anti-Christ Communist? or is he jus a minor minion of Satan?” That’s why they’re my friends. Even though our political orientations vary wildly. ---

Another vote here for de-friending. Chances are she won’t even notice. If she does, and asks you why, you can go one of two ways: “My page was getting too cluttered, so I decided I had to pare down my friend list to only those people I still know in real life. Sorry, nothing personal.” or “I couldn’t take your daily political screeds any more. Sorry, nothing personal.” Either way it’s short and sweet, and you have the option of blocking any future PM’s if necessary. Dude, it’s just somebody you knew for a short time 3 decades ago. Not worth stressing over it, even if she did like your video. ---

I don’t get the dilemma. It’s a friggin’ Facebook page, not a living will. From what I can tell, this is a person who the OP was aquaintances with 30 years ago. You managed to make it through life since then without the benefit of his sterling wit. I say get rid of what you don’t want to see on your own Facebook page. It’s not like your taking out a contract on his life. Who gives a shit if someone you barely know, and you don’t really seem to like that much in the first place, gets their panties in twist because they got de-friended on Facebook? If you’re lucky, you won’t hear from him for another 30 years. ---

But he’s one of those people that if Obama said on a perfectly clear day that the sky was blue and Rush said it was plaid, he would believe Rush unconditionally. Anyway this poll is an example of what he usually posts on there: “Should Obama Shut Down Fox News?” Yes No It’s unconstitutional Yeah Obama is wasting his time picking a fight with FNC, but who said anything about shutting it down? Is he secretly manuevering to get their broadcast license revoked? ---

Why bother to maintain contact with people like this? All that political stuff is part of who that person is. You either take that person as a whole, or not at all. It seems like we’ve seen this complaint a lot about Facebook – old high school acquaintances turning out to have stupid or repellent views that they won’t shut up about – they aren’t pleasant to interact with anymore – the maintance of a “friendship” becomes desultory and joyless. Why bother? ---

**Hamster King** , I feel your pain! I had two similar friends who I reconnected with only to find out that they’re right wing loonies. I tried to be patient and take a step back and say, “I’m sure my anti-Bush rants got on peoples nerves so cut them some slack.” But it became more than status updates, they’d go on tangents in comments, write shit on my wall and vote on horrible hate-filled polls (like the Obama assassination one). So, I highly recommend what I did. De-friend! ---
