Aside from Wallace & Gromit, does anyone make pesto without basil?

I’ve made a cilantro-pesto (one with pine nuts and one with cashews).

But, to me, “pesto” implies basil. If you’re making a version that uses a different herb, you signify. . .\<blank\>-pesto.
Not just in America; in much of Europe it means nothing else. Germany is an exception, or at least it was in 1989 when I asked for ketchup and got something brown and curry-tasting.
That is still primarily made from tomatoes.
[Here’s one variety.](http://www.asiamex.com/proddetail.cfm?CFID=8294779&CFTOKEN=99640&ItemID=1274&CategoryID=15&SubCatID=122)
They do have some that aren’t curry-flavored, but most of the ketchup in Germany is different from what you’d expect in America (or the rest of Europe, I guess) - less sweet, and more spices.

Malaysian _kecip_ is pretty much like soy sauce, though they have a few different varieties as well.

Soybeans to miso, Rice to Mochi, Olives to tapenade, dried fruit and animal fat to Pemmican or Mincemeat.

Yes! Use Rocket (or Rughetta and Rucola as it is also known), Add oil, pine nuts, garlic and parmesan. Yum!
