> The Yondu arc was okay. Baby Groot was almost minion-ized in this one (a cute character that gets overplayed). It was nice to see Kirk from Gilmore Girls again.

Every time Sean Gunn was onscreen all I could see was Kirk in outer space!

You know what puzzles me, now that I think back on it? Once Peter got his own ship, why didn’t he go back to Earth?

And I’m still trying to figure out what Stallone was saying about Yondu at the end. Also what Yondu was trying to tell Peter about the arrow. It must have been important, because he tried twice, but I could never quite make out what he was saying.

I find it hard to believe that anybody could watch this movie and think that Drax is capable of that kind of disingenuousness.

Here’s a plot hole I don’t think anyone has addressed.

Ego spent decades looking for Peter. Why didn’t he ever think about going to check out Yondu? He had hired Yondu to abduct Peter for him. Even if for some inexplicable reason he never considered the possibility that Yondu had decided to keep Peter, it was still the most obvious place to begin a search. But Yondu had kept Peter while making no apparent efforts to hide him. Ego’s search should have only taken a couple of days at most.

Maybe Ego got advice on searching for lost family members from Darth Vader: _“Whatever you do, don’t waste time going to their last known location and asking if anyone there recognizes their name.”_

Addressed in the movie-- he says something to the effect of “why would I want to go back to the place my mom suffered and died?”

Not sure what you mean with the first part, but the second I think he was saying “heart.” How he uses his “heart” to control the arrow I have no idea… but that was the lesson to Peter about using his Celestial powers. Don’t over think it, just use you feelings.

I do not control the arrow with my brain; he who controls the arrow with his brain has forgotten the face of his father. I control the arrow with my heart.

Ego’s time among the rest of the creatures in the galaxy seemed to be limited to finding sexy space-creatures and then impregnating them. He’s hugely callous and hugely naive all at once.

Yondu got a whole bunch of kids for Ego - why would he lie about this particular one? There’s nothing special about Peter. He’s just one more in a long line of probable failures.

Yondu has a human kid on his ship. So what? They probably all look alike to him.

Thank you (and **Smapti** , that was awesome).

For the first part, it was Yondu’s funeral. Stallone’s second said something about “… understand” and Stallone says “No … understand”. I’m guessing they’re deciding that Yondu hadn’t understood about the children, but I’m not certain.

Right - as far as Ego knew, Yondu just quit. He had already delivered many of his kids to Ego, and they were all failures. It wasn’t until Ego heard about the Terran who could hold an Infinity Stone that he realized that it was probably his son, and started looking for him.

These theories seem like quite a stretch. If Ego had been telling the truth initially - that he was looking for Peter because he wanted to be his father - I could accept the idea that he might have only done a minimal search because finding his missing son wasn’t really all that important to him. If he could hire somebody to deliver the kid to him, he’d do it. But if the kid went missing, no big deal - he’d get around to looking for him some day when he had some spare time. Peter’s new fame as Starlord would have reminded Ego of that, _“Oh, yeah, I had a son who disappeared. I meant to find him. I guess I should go check this guy out.”_ This would have fit in with the theme that Ego was a pretty lousy parent.

But we saw that Ego had a hidden agenda. He wasn’t just interested in Peter as his son. He needed Peter as a potential source of power for a project he had been working on for millions of years - a project he defined as the reason for his existence.

Granted, all his previous attempts had failed. And he didn’t know prior to hearing about Peter surviving his encounter with the infinity stone that Peter would do any better. But even before that, Peter was his last chance. He certainly didn’t want Peter to get killed committing some random crime before he had a chance to test him. So he really was desperately searching for Peter.

So when Yondu didn’t show up with Peter, Ego would have done something. He may have first sent another team to Earth to abduct Peter, but he would have found that Peter had already been taken. So his next step would have been to go check on Yondu. It doesn’t matter if he thought Yondu didn’t have Peter; he still would have wanted to talk to Yondu to find out clues as to where Peter was.

And if he had gone to Yondu or even just had somebody check on Yondu, he would have found out that Yondu had a new kid hanging around, who was a human boy the same age as his son - and who happened to also be named Peter Quill. Ego would have to have been incredibly oblivious not to have wondered about that coincidence.

Not a concern. Ego knew Peter was immortal.
We also don’t know Ego’s timeline for things…to a being millions of years old… a year? or 34 isn’t that big of deal.

What **jsgoddess** said. I don’t recall any dialogue related to Peter being the last in a line of offspring. For all we know Ego had several hundred more on call and was still plugging away making more. He just didn’t have Yondu on contract anymore retrieving them.

Nebula and Gamora found a small _mountain_ of offspring-skulls. And Ego claimed to have planted his goo on _every_ planet. Without hearing about the Infinity Stone incident, Ego would never have been interested in _one_ missing kid.

Peter was the only one in the thousands (hundreds of thousands? millions?) of sentient races he had mated with which produced an offspring with Celestial capabilities (e.g. being able to hold an Infinity Stone). Clearly, word of Quill holding the Stone and saving Xandar had spread throughout the galactic community.

Now the question is if Ego is destroyed, is Quill really “just like everyone else” or does he still have special capabilities? He seems preternaturally perceptive (or lucky) and also resistant to the kind of damage that should disable or kill a normal human, and one expects that those capabilities are likely baked into his genetic makeup (although how or why a Celestial would be using anything compatible with DNA is another question), so was Ego just lying to him or is he really now just a ‘normal’ human?

Saw this last weekend, right after finally catching up and watching the first movie the night before.

Enjoyed volume 2 WAY MORE than the first one, which largely failed to grab me. First film had a couple of good one-liners (honestly below par for a Marvel movie), a bunch of establishing bloat, and some weird inconsistencies that pulled me out of the story.

Film 2 made me cry. A few parts were a little bit slow, but no slower than some parts of the first movie.

Honestly, movie 2 redeemed this franchise for me, because if it’d been as bland for me as the first one, I’d have been done with these guys.
