Let’s have a contest for fun. Guess how many seats each party will win in the upcoming Canadian federal election. To help you, there are 301 House of Commons seats at stake. You need 151 for a majority government. Broken down by province: Newfoundland…7 seats P.E.I…4 Nova Scotia…11 N.B…10 Quebec…75 Ontario…103 Manitoba…14 Saskatchewan…14 Alberta…26 B.C…34 Yukon…1 N.W.T…1 Nunavut…1 I’ll score the entries as follows. I’ll add points for the amount of seats you are off, either over or under guessing. Like golf, the biggest score will be least best. Example…let’s say I guess that the Raving Monster Loony Party will win 173 seats, but in reality, they get 50. I will have 123 points. Lowest score overall will win the respect and esteem of all. (No guffaws, please. 🙂 ) The closing date for the contest will be Friday, Nov. 10, midnight Straight Dope Message Board time. Have fun! ---

I suspect that the Liberals have annoyed just enough people that they will lose their majority. I’m probably wrong though. My guess: Liberal 143 Canadian Alliance (CA) 102 Bloc Quebecois (BQ) 32 New Democratic Party (NDP) 14 Progressive Conservatives (PC) 10 ---

If you’re doing some sort of absentee balloting, you still can do so with lots of time to spare. ---

I hesitate to guess, having been away so long. 🙂 Chatting with a buddy who’s been busy digging up dirt on a CA candidate. He thinks the CA could make a formidable opposition. ☹ I’d give them 120 seats then. But I’m hoping Canadians aren’t as gullible as Americans seem to be this election… ---
