# Guild Wars 2 now free

[At least the base game,](https://account.arena.net/register?alt=gw2) there is an expansion coming in a few months that you would need to buy if you want to play that. It includes a new class and specializations for current classes, but no level increases.

Actually, it’s gone free to play. You can make an account and run all over the gorgeous world and try everything out (though I think you have to level up to 60 to try WvW). The free version lets you do everything, but limits your bag slots, mail and map chat, and other things that would attract gold sellers and griefers.

I’m not sure a PvP game is for me, but the beginning seems fun enough. And Free!

I’ve played GW2 for a couple of years, and I’ve never engaged in PvP; entirely optional.

Oh! That’s good to hear that PvE will keep me occupied.  
I’m enjoying the game so far. I like the random events that pop up.

zoid, mine downloaded enough to start the game pretty quickly (about an hour?), but took a long time to download everything else. Still downloading as of this morning.
