Hudson Hawk (See above, substitute Richard E. Grant.) Mallowcreme pumpkins (The kind you find at Mr. Bulky at Halloween in the bin next to the candy corn. I buy them by the metric ton.) Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals (I saw Cats when I was six. I’ve had a soft spot for third-rate Broadway musicals ever since.) I know there are more, but I was out late last night, and my head’s not really working yet. ---

“Dark Shadows” reruns on the Sci-Fi channel. Sometimes just see how many times a character says “what do you mean?” in order to stretch that day’s script. Peanut butter crackers Spending Christmas alone at home with my husband in our robes with a stack of cheesy videos, a bottle of Irish whiskey, the phone off the hook, and no visiting relatives. ---

Food from the roach coach You know, the silver catering trucks that frequent factories and auto repair shops? When I used to be a cabinetmaker, I was turned on to the sublime wonder of the mexican food available on the unassuming trucks. The pork tacos are still some of the best I’ve ever had. Especially when the driver’s wife would have her homemade salsa verde mmmmmmmmmmmmm! And one summer for about two weeks, he had shrimp cocktail made with a really spicy/cilantro/lime ceviche sorta thang that had us literally fighting over the last ones- the truck got to our stop at 9:35, fairly late but still early enough that we didn’t have to eat the heinous american food ---

I’m a pretty big fan of ALW’s shows, but I have come to the realization that much his music is perhaps not the most dazzling, original work to grace the Broadway stage. Catchy, yes. Memorable, certainly. But he has his shortcomings, which are probably best described in another thread on another day. 🙂 Carry on with the guilty pleasures. ---

Gum or candy out of a machine. Not the regular vending machine, but the ones with the glass globes and the “Help the Shriners” placard on the top. Of course, now it’s a quarter instead of a dime or penny, and you turn the knob rather than slide the lever, and I don’t see the “Shriners” or other charity placards, but I still like getting 11 semi-stale multi-colored chicklets (copyrighted name? okay, gumlets) or a handfull of Runts (circle R). Except I throw away the banana-shaped ones - d@mn near broke a tooth on one and won’t do that again. ---

Since when are the Dixie Chicks a guilty pleasure? I’m quite proud of liking them, personally… To each his/her own. Mine: [list] [li]NSYNC. “Bye Bye Bye”, “It’s Gonna Bay May”, etc. I hate to admit it, and I always follow the admission with the qualifier “I don’t like THEM, I like their SONGS!”[/li][li]Pop music from 1986 to 1993. In other words, when I was a kid up until I was an adolescent. Stuff like Cyndi Lauper, early Madonna, Bell Biv Devoe, Fine Young Cannibals. And especially NKOTB. (I was a fanatic about them when I was actually too young to think any of them were hot, lol)[/li][li]Pro wrestling. I don’t know why I like it.[/li][li]Indy car racing. I’m PROUD of my NASCAR fandom despite what others say 😉 but I’m rather ashamed to admit watching indy cars.[/li][li]Western romance novels. I refuse to buy soft-core cowboy porn but will take them out of the library to read if nobody I know is there.[/li][\*]RC Cola and Moonpies. RC Cola tastes like watered-down stale Coke, and Moonpies taste like chocolate-flavored paraffin (which I don’t know how to spell and which, now that i think of it, is probably all they are), but I like 'em anyway. ---

The original Neo Geo system. A horribly overpriced, hideously supported system that it was near-impossible to find games for produced by some two-bit company, and I thought it was an _absolutely fantastic_ system. I’d glady have given up my SNES and 20 games for it. Fanfiction. It’s just intesely thrilling for me to write some of the most sappy, corny, loaded stories imaginable…and then get reponses from readers saying they loved it. Emulators. Most fun computer games I’ve played in ages. Reading several hundred dollars worth of material at Borders Books and Music for every purchase. _All_ the teen pop bands, past and present, especially The New Kids on The Block (which I thought was terrific). Every song I downloaded off of Napster. Both because of Napster and my taste in music. 🙂 Going to a bowling alley, sitting, and watching. (I tried bowling once but gave it up years ago.
