That’s a good thought about the Firebrand series. But it’s not a Standard. Standards have carved maple tops and binding. As far as I know, nothing with an unbound slab-type body like this has been called a Standard.
A picture of the front of the head stock would help in figuring out what this is.
And based on WordMan’s most recent post, it’s probably a Special (like the OP said)l with humbuckers.
FWIW I bought a Gibson like this new for around $600 in 2004 although it had a pair of P90 pickups instead of humbuckers. It was called a Les Paul Junior Special (or Special Junior - I forget which.) Without a carved top, binding or a nitrocellulose finish it would probably sell for around $500 today (2017).
EDIT I just found one of these listed at Reverb.com for $595 + $40 s/h. It is a Gibson Les Paul Special 2002 Faded Cherry and comes with 490R and 498T humbuckers which are still used on many Gibson guitars.
If you - like many of us - found this board by way of a web search, you likely would not have noticed that this thread was posted a few years ago. You can check the date on the most recent post before yours to see what I’m talking about.
Around here, old threads that get resurrected (typically by accident, happens fairly often) get referred to as “zombies”. Often, people will then post whatever references to zombie guitar players, zombie pegheads, etc., that they can work in, all in good pun.
Stick around, and see if you like the place. Since you play a Les Paul, maybe you’ll take an interest in The Great Ongoing Guitar Thread, where new posts are actively encouraged.
