Guitarists-- what does the whammy bar do?

Hmmm…I don’t hear anything at 1:16 or near it that sounds much different than the guitar going on in the rest of the song. No whammy bar stuff I can hear that. What sound are you talking about exactly?

Okay, I did have the timestamp wrong. The guitar makes an interesting diving drone type of sound from 1:13-1:16.

I can also hear a similar effect on R.E.M.'s “Get Up” from the Green album. If anyone has it (YouTube only has live versions) it happens around 0:57-1:01.

What if it makes schools more corrupt generally, for example if teachers start cheating and giving over-generous marks to their students, or merely spoon-feed the curriculum to the students rather than making them learn in a more honest and truer way?
