My mistake. But it is close enough since the numbers are so hugely skewed towards non-fatal firearm violence. Adjusted the rates would be respectively 7.4 for 1993 and 1.6 for 2003. 82% reduction between 1993 and 2010. AFAIU (correct me if I’m wrong) nationwide the CCW restrictions have been relaxed quite a bit during that period, right?

Would be interesting to see the same number for CA. Extremely strict gun laws - what is the CA “firearm violence” reduction?

> Gunnists repeat over and over and over that the public opposes gun control. The poll shows the opposite. Clear enough?

Do these polling results/suggestions trump actual election results?

> You do see the slight problem there, right?
> Gun violence across California dropped 56% from 5,500 gun deaths in 1993 to 2,935 in 2010, even as the state’s population increased from 30 million to 37 million.
> During that time, gun deaths declined by 29% for the nation overall.
>
> You care to revise your assessment?

Violent crime went down in CA about the same as the rest of the nation. There has recently been a uptick.

> **[Crime Trends in California](https://www.ppic.org/publication/crime-trends-in-california/)**
>
> Violent crime in California has ticked up in recent years, with a pronounced increase in incidents involving guns since 2019. Property crime has also risen steadily statewide, and rates now stand slightly above pre-pandemic levels in 2019.

\*In the most recent national data (from 2014), California’s violent crime rate of 396 per 100,000 residents was higher than the national rate of 366 and ranked 18th among all states. \*

So CA has a higher violent crime rate than most states, but has the most strict gun laws:

[https://www.deseretnews.com/top/1428/0/10-states-with-the-strictest-gun-laws.html](https://www.deseretnews.com/top/1428/0/10-states-with-the-strictest-gun-laws.html)

I dont give a rats ass about “gun violence” I care about "violence’. Violent crime in CA is high, despite strict gun laws.

However,CA had gun murders drop by 3%, exactly like the USA as a whole:

> **[Gun crime statistics by US state: latest data](https://www.theguardian.com/news/datablog/2011/jan/10/gun-crime-us-state)**
>
> How high is gun crime across the US - and which states have the worst figures? This is the latest data

CA had a slightly higher gun murder, robbery and assault rate.
