Gun free zones; which eatery do you pick?

I in no way advocate the shooting of unruly children.

You discretely shove them flying into the collapsible product display and let their parents beat the hell out of them.

I definitely go with A.

A no-gun establishment might be a more attractive target for an armed robber (though still unlikely). But there is much less likely to be any actual shooting than in a place where everyone is armed. And a much lower chance of getting caught in the crossfire of a dozen wannabe heroes.

Nor am I, although this weekend I was at - of all places - a brew pub and someone had their adorable little toddler and preschooler (at a brew pub!) and the toddler had the shriek of a banshee. She could have made the X-Men. That shriek could bring a grown man to his knees.

My kids had that shriek. I remember it. I kept them away from brew pubs and other places I though adults might hang out and not want kids.

The preschooler had outgrown the shriek, but had not grown out of running around other people’s tables chasing - or being chased - by his imaginary friends. I remember that stage as well - that was the stage where restaurants that didn’t have a “playland” were reserved for those occasions when Grandma had the kids.

I was beginning to think that being embalmed in one of the beer tanks would either be beneficial to the children or their completely oblivious parents.

A because I would prefer to have gun haters as my fellow diners than gun lovers.

How many anti-gun folks still live in AZ?

I’d choose B, if for no other reason than to piss you off.

An hour ago I was having a beer at a bar and a woman came in with her 5ish year old. The bar serves food, so their Pennsylvania liquor license technically allows all ages, but come on, it’s a fucking bar. A child’s presence dampened the atmosphere. At some point someone screamed, “Fuck!” over some sporting event thing on the big screen TV. Mom loudly chastised the fuckscreamer. And from there things rapidly deteriorated. Soon everyone was shouting obscenities. Kid will grow up messed up.

ETA: B.

I pick B. I don’t want to support a business that opposes my constitutional rights, and the one that’s a less likely target for a mass murderer or an armed robber.

I pick A if forced to pick. I’m much more concerned that an argument would break out than a robbery and an argument in B could lead to shooting. In A it leads only to fist (or knife I guess) fights and I can get out of there without being a bystander victim.

If in the much less likely (IMO) event a robber comes in, I hand over my wallet. I’m still not worried about 10 others drawing on the robber and me getting caught in the crossfire.

I’d pull both places up on Yelp and go to whichever one has the better food reviews. Guns Prohibited vs. Guns Welcome signs won’t even register as a criteria for choosing. Some of y’all are utterly obsessed and paranoid about random gun violence, I swear.

And… you think everyone being armed in that scenario would be a good thing? Because I’m kinda thinking the opposite.

Or was that anecdote unrelated to your choice?

I didn’t vote because this issue is so unimportant to me it would never be the deciding factor in which shop I picked. The real answer would be “Whichever had the better TripAdvisor” reviews.

Edit: Actually, I just now noticed the sign in “A” says “all weapons.” So even pocket knives? To be honest I’d consider such a rule stupid / one that I don’t care about, much like the rule against outside food in a movie theater (broken it hundreds of times.) I don’t always carry a pocket knife, but I often do. Sometimes I have a fold-up box-cutter on me as well if I’ve been cutting boxes open at work that day.

I still would pick between A/B based on their TripAdvisor ratings, but if I went into A I’d simply not pull out my pocket knife, but since I wouldn’t normally pull it out in restaurant anyway since if I need to cut something they usually provide the appropriate cutlery.

Do people really think that people with guns are likely to use them at any little provocation? You’d be shocked at how many people carry guns in places that you go. If you ever do pull out a concealed weapon, you’ll likely lose your permit, so most people are careful to keep it concealed.

Yeah, sorry. The situation had just happened and I was responding to Dangerosa’s comment. However, struggling to make my comment topical, concealed carry in a bar in PA that does not expressly forbid via signage is legal, unless the bar is within a casino.

Yep. I carry a Kershaw knife every day and chose “B” for that reason.

I realize you’re referring to private gun owners, but by this same logic would you prefer that armed law enforcement police not show up to the scene of an ongoing shooting, either? Because, once they do, there’s going to be multiple people wielding guns, and “crossfire,” and your chances of getting “caught in a hail of crossfire” go up.

FTR: I’m for gun control, but open carry in a restaurant isn’t the thing that concerns me. So, I’ll chose the shop that’s easiest to get to.

In reality, either one. I carry concealed so the only way anyone is going to know I’m packing is

a) frisk me (and any diner that frisks or wands 100% of its patrons is going to fail real quick)

b) be in threat of my life and forced to take action. The odds of that are pretty slim as well and should I actually need to face deadly force with deadly force I “double-dog-dare” you to try to bitch at me for ignoring your little sticker afterwards.

Isn’t disobeying a business owner’s posted sign no different from my behavior in which I sneak chocolate covered peanuts into movie theaters? It can get me kicked out of the theater, but it’s not intrinsically criminal unless I actually refuse to leave, at which point it would become trespass.

Or is this something special to guns in certain states where such a sign makes it a more serious misdemeanor offense just to possess a gun in a place where a business owner posts a sign? I know that certain government properties are special cases, but that’s government property, not private business.

All right, everybody tuck your pants into your socks.

Piss me off? Can’t tell if you’re talking to me as the OP but I’d probably choose B just for the sake of petulance, in that I don’t like signs telling me what to do.

You took it correctly, that all else is equal and the signs are the only discernible difference.
