People like you scare the shit out of me. What do you mean, “unless I can get away with it?” Are you saying you’d actually assault someone if you saw them “desecrating” the flag? A flag is a symbol. People who believe as you do seem to care more about that symbol than what it stands for. Only you obviously DON’T care what it stands for. One of our most cherished freedoms is allowing citizens to criticize the government. And one way of expressing that is to burn the flag – it’s symbolic. The flag isn’t sacred. Descent and freedom are. Including the freedom to disagree. To outlaw that, you make us NO BETTER than those we fight against. The idea that you think someone should be shot, without a trial, and that you would do so “if you can get away with it”, it makes you sound like a fucking psycho. Let me say – if they EVER outlaw flag burning, I will be out there burning as many flags as I can. ---

I always thought of **Gusnspot** as the sort of guy who would chase kids off his lawn with a shotgun, so this doesn’t totally surprise me. I will say that the most commonly-recommended method of disposal for a US flag must be a real conundrum for him. ---

Don’t know, off hand, how many “protest” type gatherings I’ve been to. And I have endured many an outrage, up to and including poetry renderings from dollar store Maya Angelous. I heard folks songs from people who can’t sing, and speeches from people who can’t write. I never once saw anyone burn an American flag. ---

Not to mention that you don’t get to pick and choose what gets covered by the first amendment. Either we have complete free speech, or we don’t have free speech at all. Seems like a patriotic citizen from the U.S. Of A would understand that. ---

I’m a vet who served in Iraq and I would defend anyone who chose to burn the flag. In fact I frequently think it should be burned or at least hung upside down… ---
