Well, hell. He wrote lots of great songs but to me “Randall Knife” stands out since it chokes me up every time I hear it. The title song ( about his long time partner/wife) form his last album “My Favorite Picture of you” was also very touching.

It’s “The Cape” that gets me every time., but “Dublin Blues” was always my favorite of his songs.

An underappreciated national treasure. Hope he’s reunited with Susanna now.

I remember a very young Guy & a very young Townes, passing the guitar & trading songs. Back when they were Houston folkies. Just before legend Mickey Newbury convinced them to move to Nashville. (There was a table made from a cable spool, a hanging light bulb in a paper “Tiffany” shade, cheap red wine & lots of smoke.)

The _Austin Chronicle_ offers [this article from 2013](http://www.austinchronicle.com/music/2013-07-19/we-were-from-texas/):

> [@](#):
>
> “We just wanted to go play music and not have it cost an arm and a leg, that was the initial impetus,” offers Clark. "But it was fucking Nashville, Tennessee, home of Johnny Cash, and you’re a songwriter from Texas. It was top of the world, like Paris in the Twenties. Me and Townes, Steve Earle and Rodney Crowell. Some serious raw talent.
>
> “We were absolutely ballsy. We were from Texas.”

Guy was another one of the masters of classic Country and Western. I’ll raise a bottle to him this evening knowing that, though he’s not in this world any longer, his music will always be with me.

He’s finally off that LA freeway… and down the road in a cloud of smoke.

Nice article in the New Yorker

> Remembering the songwriter and his songs celebrating simple daily pleasures—coffee, cigarettes, Texas cooking, and, sometime later in the day, a good strong drink.

I just read the New Yorker tribute and came in to post a link. Glad to see it already here. Yeah, I gotta find that doc - is it on Netflix?

You can rent it through Amazon Prime as well. After watching the trailer, I can’t wait to watch this over the weekend. Anyone know where I can pickup an outfit like David Allan Coe’s? 😃

Just found the _Heartworn Highways_ Revisited website. With some [Last Thoughts on Guy…](http://heartwornhighways.com/2016/05/last-thoughts-on-guy-clark/)

> Authenticity seems to be the catch phrase of today. Everyone wants it. Everyone tries to be it. I have traveled the country and the world, spoken to countless people of different cultures, colors and beliefs. I have met a total of two people who struck me as 100% authentic – a young boy in Arusha, Africa who tried to sell me a bracelet and then schooled me on the politics of George Bush and my own ethnocentricity; and Guy Clark. Within five minutes of being in his presence, it became crystal clear why a group of songwriters in mid-70’s Nashville wanted to spend as much time as possible in his presence. Steve Earle, Steve Young, Rodney Crowell, David Allan Coe… just a few of the now-legendary outlaws who banded with Guy, got rip-roaring drunk, and shared the depth of their souls with each other via the music they couldn’t help but create. As Hedley also pointed out, “Who else could write a song about tomatoes? He could.”
