A guy that used to work for me would get jock itch standing in front of the grill all day. So I told him to take some corn starch to the restroom and doctor himself up before work. Well one day mall security see him leaving the restroom as they go in on there rounds. Inside they see white power on the counter so they run up to my store to apprehend him for the police who are now on the way. When they explane to me what’s going on I bust out laughing. Unamused they demand to know what’s so damn funny.About this time a cop shows up,so I get to tell him that the rent-a-cops have arested my emploee for haveing diaper rash. 😃 ---

All my life. My Dad was in New Guinea during WWII, and he \*knew \*about fungus. So I have been powdering both my feet and groin since an early age. If you really do get jock itch, get a \*real \*medicated powder with real stuff like Tolfunate in it. Don’t screw around with Gold Bond, etc. that’s only for \*preventing \*fungus. ---

Wait a minute, OK, so you have jock itch, which is like athletes foot of the balls, right? And you need medicated stuff for that. I’ve never had that. But you also have chaffing, which is what you get when you walk around Houston in the summer time. I have had that. Is talcum powder good or bad for this particular ailment? ---

[/QUOTE] Cornstarch powder (read the label) is likely better, but sure, for chafing, Gold Bond and it’s many clones (or even baby powder) is fine. ---

I had never heard of this, although somewhere in the back of my mind it registers as something someone wearing a jock might do. I have, however, in the last few years started thinking about switching over to boxers… ---

I’ve had jock itch, and used the creams to cure it. That being said, I would never powder my bits. I tried that once. Whoever thinks that’s a good idea for diaper rash has got another thing coming. When you sweat, it just turns to play-doh down there. I worked in a restauruant for many, many years and the combinaton of sweating and cardboard stiff pants often lead to chafing. We would just use a lotion or neosporin or another ointment. Worked way much better than any powder. ---

Sorbolene creme is the ticket for heat rash - but ya gotta do it preemptively! Never, never use Vaseline / petroleum jelly, as that stops the skin “breathing”, and just traps the sweat against the skin. There are topical steroidal lotions available if you are already showing symptoms. - wear cotton or wool. - shower twice a day. - rotate your tyres, etc. – TLD, big, hairy, sweaty guy with physical job living through another Australian summer - who KNOWS about these things. ---

I like nothing more than a liberal application of talcum powder all over my body after a shower - just because it harks back to childhood memories of _feeling_ clean (dunno if it actually DOES anything), but that is strictly a wintertime indulgence. In summer, the powder gets put away at Casa Dawg. I do NOT need Y-fronts full of cookie dough, thankyew. ---

I dry off after a shower in front of a fan. If you get the “personal bits” nice and dry before getting dressed, no jock itch seems to develop, and you can forgo the need for powders and other such chemistry. ---

Apparently either many of you are too young to have been exposed to the mid-20th century idea of groinal maintenance. I learned these lessons both at the hands of gym teachers and army drill sergeants (no, not literally you deviated preverts!). The proper post-shower protocols for avoiding crotch rot, creeping crud, jock itch and other supericial infections of the whangal and sackal areas are as follows: 1. Thoroughly dry the area. Do not fondle. 2. Don clean, dry cotton underwear. Nothing skidmarked, sweatsoaked, or otherwise soiled. Turning them inside out doesn’t make them clean. 3. Pull out the waistband and lightly sprinkle your groans with talcum powder. You want to get it up under your scrotalus and in your creases rather than in your public thatch. 4. An additional sprinkle between the botox is optional, but highly advised. The same basic steps are followed to avoid athlete’s foot although you substitute toes for genials and socks for underwear. Apparently hygiene isn’t given the importance it once was. I suspect the commies have something to do with it. ---

My 4 year old occasionally requests some powder because he doesn’t like the sensation of sticking to himself (he wears boxer briefs). My husband initially suggested it to him because he’s constantly readjusting and said it was because “it’s stuck to my leg!” My husband will put a little powder down there if he’s playing rugby or going for a run. No jock itch or anything, just keeping everything sliding smoothly :).
