Just had a little poll come to mind that was inspired by a story a friend told me. How many of you, or people close to you, have had a relationship with someone famous? I’m hoping to avoid dubious “friend of a friend of a friend” anecdotes, but I’m curious what kinds of stories you people have that involve romantic interludes with celebs. Here’s my story, and since it’s currently on going I’m not going to be specific on names, but it’ll give you the gist of what I’m talking about. A good female friend of mine is currently engaged in an affair with a drummer for a reasonably famous band. The band was a staple on MTV about 6 years ago, and are still touring successfully. They met at a House of Blues show in Chicago, and they’ve been keeping in touch since. She rode on the tour bus with them to a gig in the suburbs, and has hung out backstage after shows 2 or 3 times. The group is scheduled to perform in another nearby city in an upcoming weekend and she’s debating making the drive to see him. The drummer happens to be married. I’m not interested in any moral judgements or anything, just curious how common these, um, brushes with fame are and if anyone has any fun or exciting stories to share on the topic. Enjoy! ---

A member of my fraternity went on a date with Rachael Ray. She came to cook for us my Freshman year (he was a super-senior.) It was back when she just had a local show in the Albany, NY area. We were fans, we wrote her a letter, she came and cooked. Less than a year later she’s world famous. AFAIK, it was just the one date, no hanky-panky. ---

My Latin teacher in high school dated Jim Henson. She said it was a pity date, she was one of the cool beatnik types and he was a nerd that messed with puppets. ---

Sad, boring and selfish according to his recent biography. And proof-in-the-pudding-wise, none of his wives stuck around long, besides the long-suffering first one, who at least knew him when he was all of the above, no doubt, but not a total dickhead with zero self knowledge too. ---

A friend of mine boarded with a really cool couple while he was at school. The husband used to go out with Lulu (_To Sir With Love_) years before in England. He even had photographic evidence. A few years ago another friend had a short affair with a “famous” woman but she was married and to this day he has never let on who she was. We only knew about it because of his unavailability and his pathetic lying at the time. ---

For the Australian Dopers; my mum was acquantances with Kim Beazley back in her uni days; he was trying to sleep with one of her friends. She thinks he was an asshole then and an asshole now and is relieaved that there’s probably no way he’ll ever become PM.
