Could these traps be set up to keep people away from some illegal activity that’s going on in the park? I’ve heard of people [using national parks to grow marijuana](http://articles.cnn.com/2008-08-08/justice/pot.eradication_1_marijuana-plants-drug-cartels-pot-production?_s=PM:CRIME) or to set up [meth labs](http://opinionator.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/01/12/a-murder-at-paradise/#). Anyone doing something like this would, of course, have a motive to lie about why they set up booby traps. ---
