Hair up or down?

Before you pick up the scissors, remember this.

I think both styles look good on you. If you wear it up, though, I’d suggest not letting your bangs hang down over your forehead. The picture labelled “cutie” is where you look best with it up. Generally I think having it down looks more feminine on you, and the bangs look better with the rest of the hair down, but they both look good.

Ditto on all of that. My hair is at its shortest at waist-length, for my once-a-season trim; it’s thick, with a lot of volume, and I never got the hang of styling it when shorter. Now, I can just braid it for everyday wear, and when I’m feeling too lazy to even brush it–or when I want to be dressier–I have a collection of hairsticks. Hairsticks with feathers! Hairsticks with dangly elephants! Hairsticks for all occasions!

Plus, if you know someone with a lot of patience and bobby pins, you can do all sorts of entertaining period hair. If you’re into that.

Ah, but the kind of period hairstyles I like are flapper hair.

If I were to cut my hair, what styles do you think would look good? I would go chin-length or shorter, and wouldn’t be afraid to go just a bit longer than Britney’s hair linked above. I was thinking maybe something like this I could pull off, what do you think?

I’ve been itching to cut for weeks. My hair has finally reached the length I’d been thinking of when I started growing it out (5 years ago!) but I do nothing with it. I also forgot about how hot it is (to give you some idea of how thick my hair is, it was thinned out at my last haircut, and the amount taken out was probably what most people have on their entire head), how much shampoo and conditioner it takes, how impossible it is to brush. Plus, jumping out of bed and heading out the door is not an option with long hair, versus short, because this hair looks rather frightening in the morning. With it short, at least I have that cute bedhead look.

I live in Florida, which adds a whole new dimension as well. Recently it’s been around 87 with 65% humidity-- and it’s been gorgeous. In a month or so, it’ll be weeks of 90+ days and 75%+ humidity. This hair is never happy this time of year.

I actually prefer longer hair in the summer, so I can pin it up. I’ve toyed with the idea of getting really short hair but never quite had the courage to do so.

Someone above mentioned a pixie cut - I think that might look cute on you as well, based on your photos.

OK I have to cut it. It’s becoming an obsession, it has to go. It’s just hair, I’m not particularly attached, it grows back. I think it’s time to take a trip to Sally Beauty Supply, get some fun hair color (like blue!) and head over to my friend Alix’s house. She’s cut my hair before, and usually does a better job than I do. Then in a few weeks, when it’s time for a trim, I’ll let the ladies at Star Booty shape it up and have fun with it.

Hehehe… I just sent her a message asking her to cut it for me, and her husband called and offered to do it… I told him I didn’t want to shave my head (“But I’ve got like a #5 guard!”). No thanks, there, buddy, I want a change, I don’t want to join the Army.

I suppose I’ll have to post pics when I’m done, should you guys be interested. Thanks for the advice and suggestions. I really just needed to think about me, my style, and my laziness, and how my hair fits into all that. I don’t think I’ll do quite a pixie, I think my face is too round, but probably almost that short. We’ll see.

Wish me luck!

Okay, total hijack, but I have to know how that’s done!

I vote down. I think it looks much nicer that way - plus, then it can hide any, umm, marks on your neck. Ok, that really has nothing to do with it, but I like down better.

Brendon Small

OK I did it. It’s gone. I’m now the proud owner of flapper hair. (sorry about the blinding whiteness in the pictures. I’m pretty pale, and haven’t figured out my digital camera yet)

Whadya think?

I feel 10 pounds lighter, my neck isn’t all hot, I won’t have to use a whole bottle of conditioner on my head… it’s sooo nice.

Yay!

I like it–it really suits you!

Yup, it looks very nice.

Thanks! Maybe now I won’t dread the summer heat so much.

Wow, that’s cute.

Congratulations!

I like! I love that period of hair. It looks lovely on you.

I’m like you.

I spent years growing my hair out - which never gets much longer than my shoulders and is wavy. And I don’t like how I look - I find myself much more attractive with it pulled off my face. I think the shoulder length hair down makes me look like a cocker spaniel. Then I cut it.

After about 20 years of this, I’ve kept it pretty short for a long time.

I think short (or back) brings out your cheekbones and eyes. I won’t say that long makes you look like a cocker spaniel, since I think that is a determination each woman needs to make on her own.

Very cute–you kind of have that flapper look over all and it works.

Marlitharn, I have no idea, really; I just sat there. It’s all basically rolled back on itself and pinned into place–usually the hair needs to be ratted, but mine is substantial enough that we didn’t need to do that. There are probably instructions somewhere on the 'net, if you search for “Gibson Girl.”

And RedRoses, your hair looks totally cute!
