Not really a rant, but it didn’t seem appropriate to make a new thread in MMPSIMS. Found out on Monday afternoon that one of my friends died in a plane crash. He was one of the first people not associated with my education whom I befriended when I moved here. He moved away some years ago, but we still kept up via Facebook or when he would be in town to visit. We weren’t extremely close, but it still seems weird to know that he’s dead. I can’t even imagine how his fiancee is handling things. And that makes me wonder if I should contact my ex-boyfriend to tell him the news. I found out via Facebook from the deceased’s ex. (We used to double-date) I doubt my ex really kept up with the deceased, and I haven’t talked to him in a little under a year, so I don’t really feel like he’d care to know about the passing, but another part of me feels like it is selfish not to tell him. I just don’t really have a desire to open up the channels of communication again, especially over something that he might simply shrug off and wonder why I bothered to tell him. ---

I’ve been doing a lot of shredding lately. Actually I hired the teenage son of a friend to do it for me. He shredded for a couple of hours this weekend, and dumped the shreds in our recycle bin. On Tuesday our gardener puts out all the trash cans, as trash day is Wednesday. I went out early this morning to add some more cans and bottles to the recycle bin, and discovered that the trash pickers had already gone through and stolen all the cans and bottle that were there before- and had thrown bits shredded paper all over in the process. Even better - they apparently went through the actual trash can, and opened up one of the bags of used kitty litter/disposable litter boxes - there was stinky, used Feline Pine all over the ground as well. Thanks a lot trash pickers! Hope you enjoyed opening that particular trash bag! ---

Well, San Francisco won the world series again. Whoop-de-fucking-do. A license for the “fans” to riot, loot, and commit various acts of vandalism. This will go on for hours, because it is more important that “fans” should jump up and down, scream, honk their horns, and set off illegal fireworks all night long than anyone who has to work tomorrow should get any sleep. It was sure nice and quiet last night. Don’t tell anyone, but I was rooting against the home team, only because everyone gets so stupid about winning. ---

He’s had at least a dozen jobs in the past year. His grandma bought him a truck - when his DL was taken away, he sold it and spent over $10K in less than three months on…nothing. He still resides at home with his mom and dad - he has a horrible relationship with his mom. It took this second child to make him get a clue. Not ideal, but it is what it is. He has been working full time, paying child support, spending time with his older child, and paying some rent every month for the past six months. That is HUGE for him. He says he woke up one day and realized it was time to get his shit together. My minirant: My kid just whipped a Blow Pop at me - got me in the forehead. That frickin’ hurt! Guess I’m going to be a unicorn for Halloween. ---

Yes, I know I was once known on this board for my “am I the only one?” and “is it just me?” posts/threads. But I’m wondering now if I’m the only one who is driven mad when cashiers drum their fingers impatiently while I’m trying to get out my money or bank card to pay for my purchases. It makes me feel like I’m under so much pressure to try to pay for my stuff RIGHT THIS INSTANT because the cashier needs to have my money RIGHT NOW DAMMIT!! Drives me nuts! (even more nuts than I usually am.) ---

A cashier who impatiently drums their fingers or whatever is a jerk. If there is no queue, there is no pressure to keep things moving, if there is a queue, that should be enough pressure on you from the other customers. ---

Oh good grief. If your mother tells me you’re attending your first year of community college, YOU ARE TOO FUCKING OLD TO TRICK OR TREAT. He was also too lazy to manage a decent costume. My eldest looked him over and said as he was leaving, “Mommy, how old is too old to trick or treat?” I hope he heard her. ---

I bought candy, carved pumpkins, had the yard guy put up Halloween lights and no trick-or-treaters. ☹ Its almost 6 pm, the little ones will be going to bed soon and I’m going to miss their cute costumes. AGAIN! Dammit! ---

Sorry for the double post, but I’m still all upset about the dearth of Trick or Treaters. I got 9. I’ve got so much candy left over that everyone at work will go into diabetic shock. The worse was the mom who wouldn’t allow me to fill their bags “They are only out to show off their costumes, they don’t need that much candy.” I didn’t say bad words in front of them, but I sure did think them. ---

Second the dearth of Trick or Treaters! Okay, we stopped to pick up some groceries on the way home, so it was a little after six before we had the porch lights on (the signal around here, anyway, that you’re looking to hand out candy) and gave up at 9. In that span we had the doorbell ring ONCE. The two little girls from across the street. We dumped a couple handfuls of chocolate bars into their bags. If we’d known they’d be the only ones… What’s so weird is that the weather was plenty fine, and last year we had nearly 50 kids in the same time span. Wha’happened?
