Due to my stupid health issues, I have to psych myself up to do heavy chores. My goal for today was to mow and bag the lawn, put up Halloween lights, do a slug of outdoor things.
Lawnmower refuses to start. Dammit.
Got the lights out, put planters and the birdbath away… but am still hyped up. I want to get the yard done since I feel well enough.
Stupid lawnmower, stupid body.

> And while we’re on the subject of sticker shock, as recently as last month I was able to buy 4 pounds of butter for just under $9. WHY THE FUCK are you now making me pay $13 for it?

Oh! I know the answer to this one! Apparently, there’s been a bad year in New Zealand, which supplies much of China’s relatively modest market in milkfat products. Which means that Chinese purchasers are now buying American supplies of milkfat products, including butter. And while Chinese cuisine does not generally use a lot of milkfat, even very modest usage on the scale of the Chinese population is stressing American production lines, hence the higher prices.

I think Vorlon Jr. walks about under a black cloud.
He managed to flush his car keys down the toilet.
The good news is just telling the dealership who we were got a new key made.
The bad news was it was $60.
The worse news is they need the car to program the fob for it, and that will be _much_ more.

That is just fucked up, **The Vorlon**. Next time you get a car from a dealer, make sure they throw in a spare key.

Go online and hit up google for the instructions on programing your own fob, we did it for all 3 VWs we own. Bought the beepy part online, took the metal key part to a local hardware store to have the key part cut.

Doggie is sweet, I’m enjoying his company and the walking so far even if he’s a little freaked out (not so much when walking, he’s happy to walk). Right now though? My inner ear is getting itchy and my upper throat/back of my nasal passage is scratchy, I woke up this morning all phlegmy…

All signs I am having allergies.

None of which I was having before he arrived.

Next step, see if taking claritin clears this up or not and if it does… well we may not be able to have a furry pet.

Damnit I want a pet. I’m the one who pushed for it. He’s so mellow at home but loves walking so much that this is a good thing, get us out of the house more. And I may get to be the bad guy next to my son who is all over this and calling up Sam (the lovely lady at the rescue who wants to find Bobby a home) and telling her it won’t work out because I inherited my Grandfather’s health issues.

I had a friend with pet allergies who decided taking shots was worth having a pet. Not judging, you’ll have to decide.

This is it is just a trial run, we haven’t formally adopted him yet, so I guess at the moment we are kinda acting as a foster with the look to adopt. I just feel so bad, he’s currently dozing on the couch next to me.

I’d have to talk with the doc about shots, but when I asked about them the doc didn’t want to go there unless I really needed to. She wanted to see how I did with lots of nasal rinse and claritin and my allergies remain in check as long as I recognize the signs and take measures to prevent. Unlike the ‘cold’ that lasted for 2 months (and I got every spring) and when I finally broke down and went to the doc with the worst spring cold I’d ever had she asked how I was even standing my ears were so swollen inside. I don’t know if it’s really worth it to me.

They are doing great, thanks for asking. And Steve’s kitten is a purrfectly cromulent name. 😃 (Seriously, she’s a cat. For the most part, cats only come when they are called if they want to…if we call Steve, one of them might come and the other one will follow.)

Wash your hands. Wash your hands. Wash your hands. Seriously…if he’s making your allergies act up, its probably dander on your hands. How old is your son? Is he old enough to take the responsibility of vacuuming the furniture and the dog? Is the dog small enough that your son can bathe him?

Allergies just suck, but sometimes you can avoid getting rid of the pet by doing extra cleaning.

I wash my hands all the time. This season can be bad if I catch something so I’m careful about that. I have a vacuum but I’d have to get a different one, the one I have has no attachments or anything and he’s so skittish I don’t know if we could even get close with one without freaking him out. We’ll stick this out a bit and see how it goes. I just took a dose of claritin and I’m going to sleep now that I’m loopy.

I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to imply that you had bad hygiene. Its just that many people don’t understand that its the dander that is a problem, not the fur.

I hope you don’t have to take the dog back, it sounds like you and your son are getting attached. But if you do, at least you will have tried as best as you can.

(I have a friend who is allergic to cat dander. She has 2 cats, they get crew-cuts every couple of months and baths every week. That’s a whole lot more bother than I’d take on, and I’m a big cat lover/rescue person.)

Ugh, I have a rash on my back. I had my husband take a picture of it, and it looks suspiciously like the pictures I can find online of shingles. I have been feeling “off,” like I have a fever but without the actual fever, for a couple of days. Googling has turned up the information that my MS drug may increase the risk of shingles.

Calling my doctor in the morning.

Shingles hurt like hell and God help you if anything brushes against it.

If that ain’t happening (and I’d think you would have mentioned the pain), then it isn’t Shingles.

You’d be surprised what dogs get used to. I don’t think I’ve ever had a dog that was freaked out by a vacuum cleaner. My dog just goes out of the room and lays in a different one, but he’s not upset by the vacuum. I had one dog that would lay right in the middle of the floor and would only move if I started bumping her with the vacuum. Some dogs even let their people use the attachments to vacuum their loose fur right off them.

He HAD a spare set. I believe it met the space/time vortex known as the couch.

Right next to most of the forks in the house, unless Shredder Guy has been transporting into my abode.

I would, but it’s not a simple key, think along the lines of a square tube with the cuts on the inside. The fob may be a different beast–web searches indicate that it is like the Sith–there can only be two at one time.

**flatlined** , I did too, just not where he could see me. 19 year old males freak the frack out when things go sideways, did not need to add to his bad day.

I hope I don’t also but given how I feel this morning I’m losing that hope. If I’d known I would be having a reaction I would have chalked it up as stupid body and not brought him (or any dog/animal) home in the first place because it’s not fair to them. I’ve been in a house with dogs before (brother and dad have dogs). Stayed longer than Bobby has been here even and had no issues. So why now?

Maybe it’s not the dog, just something he rolled in or was bathed or sprayed with. Have you given him a bath yet?
