I play with a group… we’ve been doing HALO night every Thursday for over a year now, and we have between 8-16 folks each and every Thursday.
Most of them are complaining, and our head guy is REALLY complaining. Mostly about weapons, no zoom on the pistol, grenades that bounce, inaccurate rocket, etc…
Me, personally, I am LOVEING it. The weapons have all been balanced, so that it’s much harder to be a one weapon god… something a few in our crew had specialized in(me included… Rockets are my tool. Fear me and my rocket sniping!).
While I’ve only played on Xbox Live once, I found it quite enjoyable… though a bit lengthy to get a game set up.
“One-weapon-goddom” is precisely the biggest problem with Halo online (at least, that’s what I thought the few times I could get it to work before yet another new patch would break Mac-PC compatibility). One team gets the Ghost or the Warhog, usually the other team is toast; you just had to blow the frick out of it and hope you don’t run out of ammo before you’re run over or cut down by their endless supply of plasma or gatlin-gun rounds.
Now you can take chunks out of opponent’s vehicles that have more of a realistic impact on performance, and you can jack your enemy’s vehicle, beat the shit out of him, and take it for yourself. I don’t have Live, but I bet that tactic alone will completely change the MP experience; and when you throw all the new weapons and changes to old weapons, it’s really quite a different animal. MP is where Halo2 will shine.
Even in campaign, the jacking thing really threw me for a loop. Used to be, I’d get a Ghost, and just mow everything down until I hit a portal or corridor it couldn’t fit in. Now, if you’re not careful, a Brute will jump on, beat your brains in, take the Ghost, and frag your ass with it.
I am not reading this thread since I have not completed the campaign yet. My kids have, but they are forbidden to speak of it
Was it worth the hype, I don’t know. It was worth the wait. We play 4 player split screen and with a recently purchased 2nd TV and Xbox we (me, my wife and our two kids) will soon be playing team system link against each other without screen peeking
The multiplayer options are great, the graphics are beautiful and fluid. It was definitely worth the wait. I am somewhat apprehensive over the campaign though, my kids seemed somewhat jilted by how soon they had finished it.
I just finished it. Uh, no, it wasn’t worth the hype with respect to the single player campaign. I can’t believe it’s already over. Where’s the rest of it?
