I wonder if we’re looking at it the right way? Consider Obama’s considerable achievements: he got OBL, healthcare reform, and he’s managed to not only save America from a depression, but the economy is growing again. Romney is going to lose big time. So why would anyone want to be Romney’s VP nominee? How about someone looking for a swansong? Or someone looking for publicity for next time? ---

Nazi Germany worked as a functional society until the rest of the world bombed the shit out of it. The Soviet Union made it for about 70 years. Haiti and North Korea are still puttering along somehow. And the Roman empire made was top of the heap for centuries, and they weren’t especially known for tolerance. I see no connection whatsoever between racism or bigotry and a “functional” society. What are you getting at? ---

And you have this little thing called Freedom of Speech. Unlike the Soviet Union. Unlike North Korea. Unlike the Roman Empire. I’m not saying that racism, sexism, and homophobia aren’t problems. But I really think that the majority of people really don’t give two hoots about other people’s sex, colour, or sexuality. ---
