Pitting **handy** doesn’t really serve any purpose. He never “comes” here (although I bet even money he lurks the threads). And pretty much everyone on the boards is already entrenched in either the “bloody stupid annoying” camp or the “bloody stupid annoying, but harmless” one. ---

So do I, and so does every SDMB regular. To that extent I agree with you. The problem is that not everyone is a regular. There are infrequent posters. There are new posters. I hear tell that there’s even a lurker or two. They might not know that **handy** is the biggest waste of space on this board, and might rely on his nonsense advice. (His post count gives him a certain surface credibility.) Not for the first time, I agree with **Otto**. ---

Of course there’s no heat in winter, winter is when the sun is farther away so the heat can’t reach the earth. I read that in a book a while ago. You should read that book, maybe it’s at your local library or on the web somewhere. ---

If it’s Winter XP, you can try going to the Heat menu and clicking “On”. This worked for the last winter I was in… ---

Although I figured it out pretty quick after I started. I can’t speak for everybody (well, I will someday) but when I read posts in threads, I rarely look at the poster’s name unless there is something absolutely remarkable about the text or I plan on replying. Post counts never meant anything to me and still don’t since I rarely notice them. But, I can generally predict when I’ll see **handy** ’s name if I happen to glance over to the left… I would hope that most new people here are intelligent enough that if they need to weigh the validity of two different posts, they will choose the one that appears to be well researched, written, and cited, not the two-liner that lacks capitalization. Besides, it seems **handy** can’t even post about what colour his hair is without half a dozen posters immediately following with corrections and virtual smacks upside the head. The Pit can be a scary place, so a lot of new posters might not see these threads either. You know what we need? A Sticky at the top of each forum. Yea! Perhaps something in the FAQ as well. Who wants to write it? ---

Which is better in GQ: an uninformed poster you know, or one you don’t? Plenty of other posters post bad responses, and you can’t easily discount them like you do handy, so isn’t that worse? ---

Did you see his post in the child porn thread in which he suggested examining a printout with a loupe to figure out where it came from? That might be his best effort to date. ---

I suspect when they say 'loupe" they mean the small intense magnification device commonly used by jewelers to examine gemstones.\*\* (\*\* but of course, you should check google first) ---

**Loneraven** , a loupe is a magnifying glass. The word may not exist in english, but it is common in other languages. **essvee** may also have misspelled the french word ‘loup’ which means ‘wolf’. I’m not sure which is the correct interpretation. ---
