As most of you are sleeping and/or drunk at this moment, and there hasn’t been a thread started, Let me just say Happy 4th of July to all the Americans reading. Have a safe and enjoyable day, try not to argue with your family, watch entirely too much TV if you want too, get some fresh air if you want to, and be sure to be relaxed. Ooh, and if anyone is having a barbecue, make some extra hot chicken wings. They rock. ---

I don’t really understand why Independence from Britain is so important. I mean, it’s not as though being independent from Britain means as much as independence from, say, a country that doesn’t like beer, or short dresses (or in New Zealand’s case, Australia) is it? Having said that (and bearing in mind that I read John Pilger (refer Drudge Report) quite often I’d like to take this opportunity to thank America for the good things it has provided in my life. Things that, if they hadn’t been there, would have meant my life had huge unpleasant gaps. Thank you for Creem Magazine, for Bruce Springsteen, The Afghan Whigs, Steely Dan, and all the other music in my collection. Thanks for Van Halen and Pearl Jam and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Thanks for all the sitcoms and all the people in them. Thanks also for Bill Murray and Leslie Neilson and John Henson. Thanks for Omni Magazine, Star Trek, [Bangedup.com](http://Bangedup.com) and the Internet. Thanks for the literature. Here’s a present.
