Here’s wishing both a happy 4th to all me countrymen (and wimmins, o’course), _but_… I’d also like to wish a happy generic 4th (not in the national holiday sense, but ‘it’s just kinda another day we’re still all here’) to ever’body on the SDMB (and those less fortunate) the world 'round; let’s see if we can’t all step back a couple paces from the edge of the big bango, stop dealing with each other by way of explosive material**(2)\*\*, and, I dunno… make nice, a little more often? **1)** I kept telling my guidance counselor I wanted to take Australasian EuroCockney as my second language class, and he kept looking at me funny, and throwing me out of his office. Jerk. \*\*2)\*\*Don’t get me wrong, I love my country and have the utmost respect all those who selflessly serve in its defense. I also understand that some folks just ain’t gonna respond to a rational dialogue on idealogical differences, at least not until ya give 'em a good hard shot to the head to make 'em listen up; I’d just like my daughter to be able to go to school and study a world map that doesn’t involve any major craters, or large areas with biohazard stamps across them. In the USofA _or_ elsewhere. ---

I also just wanted to wish a happy birthday to the country I deeply and truly love. I am still occaisionally amazed by the way this gloriously insane experiment worked out and by what I believe is the fundamental goodness and resilience of the American people. Yes, we’ve got extremists of all ilks yelling and screaming, but I like the fact that their yelling and screaming is not prohibited by law. Thank you, America, for never forgetting the dream. CJ ---
