# Happy Birthday to me...

Yes…that’s right according to the hospital records, I am exactly 41 years **YOUNG** now. Born June 1st 1962 at 12:15 A.M.
I threw myself a party tonight…everyone’s doing graduations this weekend and could be here. I sat out on my deck in the cool evening breeze and BBQ’d spare ribs and drank margaritas while pickin my old Fender listening to some cool blues guitar. 🆒
41 years, shit, it don’t seem possible…then again, I’ve been down the river and over the mountains and back a few times. If the next twenty are as good as the last twenty or the first 20 for that matter. It’ll have been a damned good life.
I “retired” from work when I was 21, sounds strange huh? I told myself I was going to experience some shit while I was young. I didn’t want to be an old man regretting NOT to have at least tried whatever came up.
I also told myself that in twenty years I would come out of retirement and start a career. I figured I’d be able to put in 20 and retire for real then. Well, it’s been twenty years now. While it is true I have worked and worked damned hard at many different jobs in the past 20 years, I never “punched a clock” so to speak.
I’ve managed to gain experience in dozens of fields and somehow obtained a fairly good education. No, I have not settled on a career even now. I’ve done everything from breaking horses for a living to teaching school.
I’m in pretty damned good health…good shape…not completely ignorant…etc. Didn’t want to ramble on all night. Just felt like sharing a little. (maybe a little justifying too, I’m not going through any crisis)
Hell, I can still outhang the young bucks out there anyway they wanna try. Stayed out till three last night, got up at six this morning…worked in the yard all day…still going strong. Damn, I’m outta tequila, gotta go.

Thanks all, I think I’m gonna turn in. I finished my drink and I’m full…I’ve had six hours sleep since ???(3 last night and 3 the night before)…and spent the last couple of days landscaping. Shoveled 10 yards of washed rock. Set a couple of dozen crossties. (Damn it’s been hot.)
Gotta get up at six. Maybe get 3 or 4 hours tonight. If so, I’ll be good in the morning. Work 'til noon and then go visit mom and dad. I have dinner w/ them every other Sunday.
