Coming in late and early on two family milestones. Last June our daughter got married to her partner of 9 years–they’ve been together since the beginning of her sophomore year of college. Now we can happily describe him as our “son-in-law”, rather than her “inevitability”. This coming June, our son will marry _his_ partner of almost 5 years. In this case, they met the first day of freshman year, became best friends, and became a couple at the beginning of senior year. We are happy to have her join our family. ---

I met my husband the first day of freshman year (freshman orientation in fact) and we became best friends too! Best way to start a relationship IMO. (And we married in June!) Congratulations to both of your kiddos and your family. ---

My wife and I met in the Spring of my freshman year, when she visited as a prospective freshman and was placed with friends down the hall from me. I thought she was cute, but had zero social skills, so I invited her to come sit in on the Art History class I was taking (she was coming into the Art School). It was boring and dark. She fell asleep in class. By coincidence, we ended up in a class together in the Fall. We became friends and by the Spring of that year, we were a couple. We did not date, which was good, because I was hopeless. The kids seem to have emulated us, at least a little. We’re currently at 41 years as a couple, 36 married. ---

Though we got married in July, not June. Congrats to @RickG’s family! ---

We met as juniors, but didn’t start dating until after we graduated. I think there is something to be said for common experiences as a bonding experience for a relationship. 33 years together now! ---

It’s not a milestone, exactly, but it was either put it here or start a new thread… Background: **kaylasmom** and I were never big TV watchers. When we learned that we would be having a daughter (December 13, 1995), we decided that to name her after me we’d need to invent a new name that had never existed before, and landed on Michaela (“Dr. _What_, Medicine _Which_”?) When Michaela was about 18 months old, we got her into a daycare, so **kaylasmom** could try to work on getting herself job-ready. The other children in the daycare had difficulty pronouncing her name, and took to calling her Kayla. So did the daycare provider, and pretty soon, so did her mother and I. And when I first went online in 1999, I took the handle **kaylasdad99**. Kayla has long since abandoned _Kayla_, in favor of Michaela (or Mickyy to her pals), and at the age of twenty-eight is employed in the admissions office of a Manhattan preschool. While it’s not part of her primary duties, she does interact with, and is well-known to and loved by all the children, who know her as Miss Michaela. Until today. Upon being introduced to a new attendee, she has once again encountered a child who has difficulty saying “Michaela.” The little sprog calls her “Kayla,” and history is repeating itself. I’m hoping it spreads. She’s hoping she secures employment with the admissions department at Columbia University before it does. 🤣 ---
