I was not able to take the time off - I made a stupid mistake when I first started working for this company. The HHs came on the 3rd week of training - I was told I would be missing valuable “hands on” time, but would be able to make it up, I’d just be a few days behind everyone else (we had a whopping 6 people in the class) So I opted to work those days (my family has never been very observant so it didn’t upset my parents) The following year, I requested those days off, and because I hadn’t taken them the year before, I had a time convincing the supervisors that I really was (am) Jewish. so i’ve never taken Rosh Hashana off. Sometimes I take Yom Kippur off (cause it’s easier to fast when not surrounded by office cookies and such) The beyotch of it is, my birthday is this time of year, and every couple of years, one or the other holiday falls smack on it. One year everything was early (right before Jewish Leap Year) so my birthday coincided with Sukkoth ---

Sexist? Just the customs of the sea, m’dear, along with not mentioning salt, pigs, clergymen or salmon, or changing the name of your ship, or calling it _Friday_. Yachtsman Alain Colas used to cheerfully race single-handed a monster called _Vendredi XIII_, but that’s just asking for trouble. ---
