I cannot say enough good things about the Jewish Community Center for my son’s daycare and afterschool program. But, oy vay, could they be closed _more_ days in October? ---

**Anaamika** A shabbas shikse is never actually told to do anything. If I can’t turn on the light, I can’t tell or ask anybody else to do it either. But, I can make oblique comments about how dark it is, or walk into a dark room and loudly announce my intention to sit and read a book. **Daphne Black** The fasting is not supposed to be easy. You’re supposed to think of all the rotten crap you did last year and be genuinely sorry. You’re supposed to think of all the rotten crap people did to you and genuinely forgive them. What kind of life are you living? What kind of terrible, terrible things do you that only you and G-d know about? The constant hunger pains are meant to remind you of all these things.
