Sheesh, I don’t know what’s more pathetic…trying to milk political jingoism out of nine-eleven in 2008 (and we don’t even get a day off!), or anyone who was not a dyed-in-the-wool fan of the Giants at the beginning of the 2007 season waving that asinine “18-1” taunt like they have even a microscopic claim to it. Big tragedy! Attack on American soil! Terrorism bad! Stay strong! _I know, dammit!!_ Big upset! Spygate! Tom Brady a celebrity! Lucky bastards! Too good! Miracle helmet catch! _I know, dammit!_ You know what, here’s a little experiment. Post the following propositions to any number of internet message boards… 1. There’s still merit in wallowing in the never-ending victim mentality of nine-eleven after it’s directly resulted in a ruinous, endless Iraq occupation and the reelection of what many consider the worst American President in history. 2. If 16-0 was rendered utterly, absolutely meaningless by losing the Super Bowl, and the Super Bowl, by extension, is the onlyonlyonly thing that matters, ever, at all, completely, then what the hell does the ‘72 Dolphins’ undefeated regular season matter? Either a perfect regular season is a noteworthy achievement or it isn’t. You say it isn’t, then Jerry Rice has five times as much reason to celebrate as those one-hit-wonder fish. Can’t have it both ways. …and see which gets more supporters. Might want to give it several years so one of them can reach double digits. (Man, I love this board…it’s just so much _fun!_ And to think I got upset at my The Critic thread ending up here. :D) ---
