Yes, the year went by so quickly and now it’s time to celebrate “Pi Day” again. For those few that do not know, “Pi Day” gets its name from the first 3 digits of pi 3.14. And if you are used to the American convention of writing the date with the month _before_ the day, you get 3(March) 14 (day of the month). If that’s not enough, March 14th is also Albert Einstein’s birthday. So, let’s all celebrate another wild, fun-filled “Pi Day”. ---

Nah, Pi Day was March 14, 1592. Today is just Pi Approximation Day. 😃 ---

**Q.E.D.** But just think - in a mere 9 years we will be in the year 2015 and “Pi Day” will then be 3 14 15 One year later, it will be 3 14 16 (accurate to 1 part in 300,000 - a rather good approximation). Maybe I should get out more. 🙂 **Mad Hermit** I’m glad _somebody_ said the obligatory “in joke”. (Lord knows I’ve posted a few of those myself.) ---

My nieces’ math class is celebrating the day by having everyone bring in pies. I didn’t understand what my brother was talking about when he explained it to me the other night…didn’t get the correlation with the date…thank you for making me less ignorant. ---

Here’s a question: How many slices of Pi can you get out of one Pi? And does it matter if it’s cherry or pumpkin Pi? Dammit, now I want cherry Pi. ---

And from what I’ve heard, you’re not supposed to break out your new pocket protectors until 1:59PST today. Why they use the Pacific time zone (as opposed to GMT or EST) propbably just means there are more geeks on the west coast then there are on the eastern seaboard. Pi trivia: There’s some historical discussion over the original ‘mention’ of pi. Some say it was the orignal streaker; [Archimedes](http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/archimedes/pi.html) others attribute it to the later, more accurate ratio in the [Old Testament](http://www.bibleprobe.com/pi.htm). ---

We’re celebrating Pi Day here in Asheville. In years past we’ve usually had the celebration at our house, but a friend of ours opened a Piratical bar in the past year, so we’ll be going there for our pies. Yay pi! Daniel ---
