No, I didnā€™t get it at all. And I donā€™t know what the significance of Feb 17th is either, unless thatā€™s the day Jackie goes on his killing spreeā€¦ (And I think of myself as a King fan!) ---

In that case, I wish to call it Bloated Fishy Dead Bathtub Lady Day. :eek: I seriously forgot that was the room number. Me, who for years couldnā€™t go into any bathroom without nervously peeping behind the shower curtain or door before comfortably peeing. ---

I thought the mini-series with Stephen Weber (from _Wings_) and Rebecca De Mornay was pretty good. Certainly better than the one with Jack Nicholson. Donā€™t get me wrong, I lurves me some Jack Nicholson! BUT to me, the book was all about this manā€™s descent into madness as the hotel took possession of his mind and soul. Jack looks crazy right from square one. Plus, as you noted about ā€˜Olive Oylā€™, by the time he killed Shelley Duvall, I was thinking, hell, give me the axe, Iā€™ll kill her myself! A slightly amusing _The Shining_ related story: I read this book for the first time when I was 16 years old. I was laying across my motherā€™s bed, cross-wise, facing away from the door, reading. I was just at the part where the topiary hedges come to life (::shudder:: Iā€™ve never really trusted topiary sculptures since then!), and my Aunt Anne crept, ever-so-quietly, into the room, and tickled the sole of one of my feet. To this day, there may be a norinew-shaped hole (cartoon-style, please!) in the ceiling of that room. Seriously, I screamed like a little girl! **WOOKINPANUB** , yes, I knew immediately what it was about. Iā€™ve got to get a life that doesnā€™t revolve around fiction! šŸ˜‰ ---

**norine** , I have no idea if weā€™re the same age; since itā€™s fun to pretend we are, I will say that I was exactly your age, reading _The Shining_ in my bedroom 20 feet from the living room where my entire family was assembled watching TV. I was too big a chicken to sit there and read by myself, within earshot of everyone so I went out to sit in the noisy living room, full of living, breathing human beings where no Dead Thingsā„¢ could get me. To further prove what a nervous nellie I am, years later I was all grown up and married and everything ā€¦ yet too scared to read _It_ alone in the apartment by myself, so I took a lawn chair out and sat where I could see cars going by and other normal occurrences. You may now point and laugh. ---

I do _believe_ that in some recent thread I saw you admitting to being. . .47? If that memory is correct, weā€™re close. Iā€™m 49. As far as _It_ is concerned, itā€™s one of the few novels Iā€™ve literally had _nightmares_ about. I had a _very vivid_ (as in, so-vivid-I-can-still-recall-it-now-30-years-later) about Pennywise, and in the nightmare, I kept screaming at him ā€œNo, they _killed you_; they fucking _killed you_! Youā€™re dead!ā€ How weird is that?? ---

A bit obscure, but you could call July 29th [Marie Provost](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sLIQ3rGffig) (Prevost) Day, referring to Nick Loweā€™s tune, though after checking the date of her passing, itā€™s a bit off. Funny little ditty, though. I only remember this because itā€™s my wifeā€™s birthdayā€¦ ---
