If Graham persists in this ridiculous argument, it could lead to the next step; arguing that judges who grant bail are committing impeachable offenses. Maybe we can reinstate the Meese standard that anyone who is accused of a crime is guilty.
This was the idea I was trying to get at. I don’t know how Graham could even articulate an offense from this conduct. Yes, it’s politics and anything is impeachable if you get enough votes, but don’t you have to allege something more than “she had lunch at 12:35 p.m.” if you’re going to make the argument with a straight face?
He can’t. He’s playing to the peanut gallery. What they’re hearing him say is “Kamala Harris gave money to violent black looters, because she’s black, and that makes her exactly the same as a violent black looter.”
That’s it, that’s what he’s doing, nothing more and nothing less than that. Lindsay Graham knows perfectly well that VP Harris did absolutely nothing wrong.
It will be convincing to people who want to be convinced.
It’s basic both-siderism. When a Republican commits a crime, accuse a Democrat of an equivalent crime. Don’t go into any details or offer evidence to support the accusation. Just throw it out there and say “See, both sides do this so you can’t single us out.”
Yes.
Graham is basically saying what many (most?) Republicans, along with Tucker Carlson, and Hannity, and Ingraham, are saying, which is “Trump started a riot and tried to stop the constitutional process of government so he could remain as President? So what? Kamala Harris personally set fires and looted stores in Minneapolis! She might as well have been there with a can of gasoline and a match! Same thing! Same exact thing! You can tell, 'cause she’s black.”
Sure, I didn’t personally witness Harris setting fire to a store. But I did once see a picture of her holding a lighter and a picture of her inside a store. So just put the pieces together.
