Harry Lime: Anti Hero?

I can’t remember the name of Leo’s character in Gangs of New York, but that doesn’t make Bill the Butcher the Protagonist. He’s obviously supposed to be the villian, even if he completely steals the movie from the protagonist. Same with Harry Lime.

I think the difference here is that Bill the Butcher doesn’t drive the action in Gangs of New York. Lime does in *The Third Man * even though he isn’t on screen most of the film. The Joseph Cotton character is really functioning as a guide through this world seeking Lime. I have to think **TV time ** seems to have it right.

You definitely have it right HPL about Daniel Day-Lewis. His performance dominates the film. But Leo’s character drives the action.
