For _Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone_, they did both the primary tale, for people who read the book, and the secondary tale, for people who didn’t read the book. I think the lady in the OP has been reading the secondary tale in all the HP books. ---

Check scam, all the way. Oh, you betcha; it’s a transparently obvious theft attempt. I can certainly believe a fundamentalist would go apeshit over Harry Potter books, but the evidence as presented says it was a scam. ---

Right at the bottom of the link regarding CS Lewis, they mentioned JRR Tolkien…was HE supposed to be evil too? Has there been outrage over the LOTR books/films/games? Sorry about the hijack, I just HAVE to know 🙂 ---

Look, what you all have to realize is that pretty much everything you read and everything you do is evil and the work of Satan. Once you realize this, the fundie’s job will be much simpler. The poor fundie is like the hero in that movie “They Live.” The hero had special glasses that allowed him to see that the aliens were everywhere. The fundie has God’s special glasses (the Bible) that allows them to see Satan everywhere. See? Of course you don’t. You don’t have the special glasses. ---

The last major upheaval like this in childrens books I recall was due to the Goosebumps series. It was IN-FUCKING-SANE: We had a guy come into our warehouse and start throwing goosebumps books off the shelves all over the floor and screaming about how we were leading all the innocent lambs to satan’s doorstep. Luckily he wasn’t real big and removal was easy enough for us warehouse types (watch that first step off the loading doooooooooooooooooooooooooooock…Thump). We had several incidents where sales people were disciplined for refusing to sell/promote Goosebumps books, one of them who still works for us refuses to promote Harry Potter materials but at least now she doesn’t tell people we are out of stock and suggest more “fundie-friendly” titles. ---
