[Here’s a reference](http://www.newsoftheodd.com/article1012.html) to the artical originally published in _The (London) Evening Standard_ newspaper in 1966, and the furore that followed. I’ve always interpreted it just as you have, **AHunter3** , and Lennon was at pains to confirm that interpretation afterwards.
