I hear tell he has four (count them, four) daughters in undergrad and is writing up a storm to pay the bills. Guns of the South was a novel novel and the best of the lot. I read many of the others, but I cannot say he is a good writer.
The one he co-authored with Richard Dreyfuss, The Two Georges, is one of my favorite books of all time.
I like em a bunch. His stand alones are very good, but I also like the overarching huge series. Nobody would call them great literature, but they’re a great way to unwind from class.
