True…I didn’t mean ‘baby’ as in tiny one. Sort of ‘my little girl is my baby’. It actually makes it worse that she was school age (I think she was like 6 or something, wasn’t she?). My sympathy for Pomeroy went out the door at that point though and I was rather glad when they shot her down.

Maybe. Personally I think he might become one of the great generals of the war. He seems to have the mind for it, and I notice Turtledove goes out of his way to show (and imply) the deep respect his men have for him…and he seems to genuinely care about them as well.

I’m actually hoping Flora becomes the next president…even though she is one of those useless Socialists. 😉

> Turtledove and his repetitions, I swear. Okay, so we no longer have to hear about how Pomeroy hates Americans, and now we won’t have to hear about how odd Scipio looks, to whites, in his tux.\* But now we’ve got, Michael Pound does not want to be an officer, Leonard O’Doull is used to speaking French, and every other character thinking “For better or for worse—no, for better and worse…”

Maybe he’s getting paid by the word? 😛
BTW, why do they refer to Douglas Macarthur as ‘Daniel’…I assume its the same guy, though he can’t seem to find his ass with both hands in Turtledoves universe.

Oh, dagnabbit! I did forget that!

**xtisme** , MacArthur is probably Daniel because of one twitch upon the thread, similar to the one that made FDR Assistant Secretary of War instead of an elected official, and gave Hemingway Jake Barnes’ injury.
