I used to visit a bird sanctuary in New Jersey back before significant numbers of Canada geese became non-migratory, and it was kind of a wondrous sight in the autumn to see a field covered with a flock of geese having a rest stop on their trip south.
Yes, they pooped all over the field and were aggressive if you got too close to them, but it was a once-a-year thing and within a few weeks they were all gone. Now that Canada geese have basically become large aquatic-terrestrial pigeons in many urban environments, their aura of free-roving wilderness charm has largely dissipated.
