The citizens’ band radio craze died out years ago and I don’t know how much they are used today, even by long-haul truckers.

I’ve never driven a U-Haul, but based on my experience CB radios are still frequently used by truckers and other drivers. As others have said, they’re great for learning about traffic conditions (and sometimes detours), and there are often very entertaining conversations taking place.
