I have a few, oddly enough, since I live a very pedestrian lifestyle. My ex-wife used to send me to work every weekend with a brown bag sandwich for lunch. One day I came down within a couple of hours with by far the worst food poisoning I’ve ever had, which passed in a few more hours, but it was really bad. We lived in an old house that we had bought with a garage full of ancient lawn and garden chemicals, many of which were by then illegal. She could have blamed my death on incidental exposure to those, which we still used. A few days later she told me she had fallen in love with someone else and was leaving me. What in interesting set of coincidences. I once broke up with a girl friend, and a couple of weeks later, she saw me at a party with a new girl friend. A mutual friend of ours, a labor union goon, later told me that my ex had asked him to follow my new GF and me, and rough us up a little bit. He didn’t, of course, and the ex and I went on to be at least civil. Sometimes you never know who your friends are. ---

Not to nitpick, but was a connection between chemicals and food poisoning symptoms ever proven? Like, a toxicology test? ---

Well, I’m not sure if he was going to kill me, but a patient put a gun in my face while i was doing a painful treatment on him. One of the other nurses was behind his chair and took it away from him. I went home, sick, for the rest of the day. ---

Working the night shift. A guy walked into my office, demanded my wallet, and hit me in the head with a mallet. I remember getting hit twice before blacking out. The doctors stitched up at least half a dozen lacerations in my scalp. (After they put in a metal plate to hold the pieces of my skull together.) The detective who investigated the case opined that the thief did not intend to leave any witnesses. And all for the chicken feed in our cash register. ---

Many times, but they all ended up in handcuffs, then jail. Only by luck a couple of times… ---
