Had guns pointed at me a couple times and that fellow who wanted to overawe me with a pocketknife. They were all too chickenshit for me to say they were really trying to kill me, though. Otherwise they’d have made with the shooting and the stabbing rather than waiting for me to cower or beg or something. ---

I’ve always assumed people want to kill me and I can’t blame them. But nobody has gotten very close. But, don’t give-up. I like defying death. When the Grim Reaper comes, I’m gonna’ try and take him out, first. Probably won’t work. ---

I was in a pawn shop as a customer when a kid came in with a gun. He waved it around, and tied me to a chair with sharp wire after stealing my cash $80 and my cell phone, then the pawnshop owner kicked the guy and went running next door with the kid’s knife stuck into him. THe police arrived 1/2 hour later and found me still tied to the chair. ---

I was a young teenage girl and riding a moped around my immediate neighborhood, and a couple of idiot hoodlums in a car driving towards me in the opposite direction purposefully swerved into my path to see if they couldn’t cause me to crash. I saw them laughing hysterically as they veered off at the last second. Thankfully I managed to keep the bike upright. ---

I didn’t know it at the time but my now ex-father-in-law was preparing to kill all of us on Christmas. He told my ex-mother-in-law of his intentions but since she was being abused, she didn’t have the courage to tell us to leave when we got there. I noticed she was anxious and jumped up to follow him whenever he left his chair but only several months later when he committed suicide did she tell us of his plan. Ugh. ---

When I was in high school in the 70s, I briefly used a motorcycle to get to school. One day someone disconnected the brake cables while it was parked behind the school, and I didn’t notice it. When I pulled out of the school parking lot, I couldn’t stop and just barely managed to swerve out of the path of oncoming traffic. I never found out who did this, or why they did it. My friends tried to mollify me by saying it was probably just a prank, but I didn’t see it that way. ---

In my early 20’s, after an errand in the local mall. I was settling in the driver seat, putting purse down, buckling up, when there was a knock on my driver side window. A good looking man motioned for me to roll down the window, I shook my head no at rolling down the window, but smiled and paused from starting the car to see what he wanted. He said, “Awh, come on, it’s not like that. I just need directions.” But something went from pleasant to hard in his eyes and the hair on the back of my neck rose and my stomach flipped. I had a very strong feeling of foreboding. I went ahead and started the car and backed out of the parking space with him standing right there with his palm on the driver side window of my car. Within a day or two, I saw him on the news. Arrested for a kidnapping attempt from the same mall parking lot foiled by alert mall patrons and off duty police. Just as they reported he had tape, rope, plastic sheeting, hammer and ax in the trunk of his vehicle. I dashed for the toilet to vomit. In retrospect, I was fairly calm while face to face with him, despite the very clear hair raising flight response from my body, but the news story a few days later undid me for quite some time and I never went back to that mall again. It is near 30 years later and I still will not go to any mall to shop alone. ---

A Christian at the all-boys boarding school we went to was wandering about with a knife saying he was going to stab me. Maybe I was being a bit too bicurious for his liking. A former landlord of mine went a bit crazy. A few weeks prior to the incident, I found him screaming and shouting at some elderly non-English speaking tenants. They let me into their room and I tried to make sense of the whole thing, it turns out he was going berzerk over them asking to pay their rent a week late due to a cashflow problem. The police arrived… they stayed until the old people managed to grab their stuff and go. I stayed a couple more weeks… it was cheap and in a good location, when you are poor, safety is an unaffordable luxury. When I asked for my deposit, he refused. \*\*He \*\*then rang the police. He told them I was being threatening and was going to smash up his car. The police came, I told them my side of the story, they noticed a bulge and found a lethal combat knife strapped to his body. He said it was to protect against me. I fled the city. Worst thing, he has a firearms license ---

Was at a country town when I was a teenager , in high school . I was a bit drunk I guess, and I went outside around the back of the club (which had a disco going)… I didn’t know anyone, there was some guy I knew from school and his cousin from out of town who were too drunk. So maybe the cousin, the elder one, was in trouble for giving me the alcohol. I heard some commotion outside and went out … Someone spoke to me, moved toward me… Well I guess it was the drunk cousin, as he was short and small. A large rock came my way ,right toward my head, I ducked, it hit the wall and broke it . I went back inside for safety. Police turned up, they probably had to take the two I was with away. I think they got in big trouble - of course the youths were rebelling against the heavy handed control of their fathers… they might have got heavy foots and heavy knees over this ! even got kicked out of home ? I guess about then he stopped going to school … so I never knew. ---
