Has anyone actually seen people picking up trash on the side of the freeway?

Seen it, done it. My college sorority participated in the “Adopt-a-Mile” program, and once a month we picked up trash along our mile. I was community service coordinator, so you bet I was there every time.

And let me tell you, you wouldn’t believe some of the nasty stuff we found!

Jeez, all this trash talk has made me wanna plop down with a picnic basket on the side of the freeway.

I was hopeing someone would ask.
One of our groups found a piano.
My wife found a dildo.
Lots of snakes and dead critters.
Lots of soda bottles, they prefer the wide mouth ones, with yellow liquid.
Its getting dangerous with all the meth labs that seem to be throw away.
There are constant warnings to leave certain kinds of "trash " alone.
I’m guessing that several of the younger groups of kids will quit because of them.
Iowa seems to be a crossroads for drugs.

We have “spring cleanup” every, well…every spring! The “Chinook” (which if I remember right means strong wind, or warm wind, something like that) comes along in early spring and blows stuff all over tarnation.

By the time breakup (what we call the muddy disgusting season of much snow melt and grime), is over and all the snow has melted, the sides of the roadways are nearly covered in runaway cardboard boxes, paper, garbage can lids, debris of all types.

Tons of crews from various companies, local utilities, and organizations (I’ve had my turn a time or two) get together and go out and cleanup the roadways.

It looks really nice when they’re done too.
