i remember it well. we had two superb singers from the indianapolis opera company playing the male leads (don’t remember the character names now).
when they sang lilly’s eyes, everything onstage and backstage came to a screeching halt. no matter how many times us stage rats had heard the song during the course of all those weeks of rehearsal, no one ever got tired of hearing it.
and we’d applaud as loudly as the audience. why not? they couldn’t hear us over their own cheers and whistles. whatta song that was!
I loved the book as well. And LLF and the Little Princess. Unfortunately the first really is very racist toward Indians - and the last, too, I think - and being E. Indian it does bother me a little. I mean, this isn’t far removed in the past. My *parents *tell me stories of when their parents were treated like this by the Brits! All the same, they are sweet stories, all of them.
I loved LLF…I was completely charmed by the little one in that book.
I thought about Colin Craven and his goal to study Magic when I read Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and was introduced to Colin Creevey. I wondered if Rowling did that on purpose.

I’m doing the main curtain, and it gave me blisters the other day. And I thought it shouldn’t be the normal musical, but a rock musical. But only five other people agreed with me. I also thought someone should die in the end, with either Colin and Dickon fighting to the death for the hand of Mary or Colin going on a violent rampage with Mary and Dickon’s dead bodies next to broken wheelchair parts.
Not sure if the OP realizes this, but it IS a musical – the 1991 Tony Award winner for Best Book of a Musical. And the then 11-year-old Daisy Eagan won Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical for her portrayal of Mary Lennox, making her the youngest person ever to win a Tony.
I have a soft spot for the show and the novel, both.

Which would have been cool. Sorry to post this late, but I did start the thread (back when I was Mr. Nuggets. The play’s been done with for a long time now, but if you still want to know…
