I was reading **jujuju** ’s thread in which the topic of random hookups came into play and was wondering if anyone ever had taken up any offers like the one made (jokingly, I assume) in that thread to hook up with the OP. So…have you ever witnessed or been a part of a Dope hookup? I seem to recall that some couples have met through the SDMB and if you’d like to share those stories, feel free, but I’m really talking about ‘no strings attached’ type meetings. ---

Yes, one became my girlfriend for a year and a half. We travelled the world together and we’re still very close. Another… well, we aren’t hooking up, but things did get very intense for a while. 🙂 ---

You’re asking if, in 10 years of existence, a message board with many single members has had any hookups? A message board that at one point had many gatherings, which used to be little more than a chance for people to spend whole weekends getting drunk together? Sarcasm aside, I notice you haven’t been around very long, so you’d have missed the gossip and high drama that followed the early Dopefests. Without spreading gossip about anyone else, I can tell you for a fact that hookups happened. I find the people that met and actually became couples more interesting, but as far as no-strings-attached… Yep. ---

I agree with the substance of **Valerieblaise** ’s post, and the pith of **Twix** ’s. It would be indiscreet to mention in much more detail than Twix gave the particulars of such meetings, to mention nothing of the legal issues arising from such indiscretion (out-of-wedlock babies being born, marriages dissolved as a result, STDs being passed on from Doper to Doper to Doper…) ---

Well, most of that! Hmm. Some of that. I remember the basic plot points of that. You were a sport to put up with my behavior, rather than, say, punching me in the head and telling me to go home. But that was a no-hookup situation, much to the cab driver and the OP’s disappointment. ---

Despite having coordinated the last LA Dopefest at Roscoe’s Chicken & Waffles, with appropriately intimate lighting, one unnamed female Doper groping the leg of a complete stranger in the restaurant and plenty of discussion about fowl violating batter-based food stuffs, I’m not aware of any hookups that took place.
